Braid on small spinning reels

I have been having issues with the line spinning around the spool on my ice rods when it gets cold. What kind of knot or other tricks do you guys use when spooling braid on your ice reel's?

I have powerpro icetek and suffix 832 ice if that makes a difference

I use to have this problem too. Once you tie a knot around the spool to start spooling the reel, place a thin piece of electrical or duct tape around the knot/spool, then use decent tension when spooling and you shouldn't have any issues after that.

The tape trick like mentioned above works or you could also put a bit of mono backing on the spool first & then tie your braid directly to that & fill the spool up the rest of the way.

On small ice fishing reels i use some electrical tape on the spool, for my open water rods I use mono backing to help fill the spool and stop the slipping.

I either use mono backing if I have some old stuff available, or tie a knot with the braid and put some electrical tape over the knot.

Yep, electrical tape. Even a pretty small piece, like 1/4" x 1/2" is enough to provide the grip you seek.

A wrap of hockey tape works pretty weii too!!

Tape, or wrap about first 10 wraps by hand as tight as you possible can before you use reel handle. Never had one slip yet winter or summer.

Tie on as tightly as you can, put one drop of super glue on line on spool. Wait a few minutes, then spool 'er up as normal.

I’ve always thought that’s what the piece of tape on the spool was for.

Hook it in the line keeper that is on most reels first then spool it up. No need for tape.

I guess I always thought it was for holding the end of the line on the box so you could find it the next time. But there is also a little notch on the spool for that too.

I only buy fancy reels with the rubber thingy built into the spool - it grabs the line (see dark strip)

Most of the Pfluegers have this braid helpers. They're a great idea. Someone had der tinker on.
