Looking at buying a used car for my daughter. Saw this one that had a large dent in the door. Is this kind of dent something a person could pull or push out at home?

You could pull some of that out and bondo the hell out of it but your best bet would be to get a new door skin.

The bottom part should come out nicely. The top part has such a sharp angle to the bottom of the dent on the left that it will leave a line. If you have an air brush and can blend that small line that you will see after can taken out with a small amount of grinding, or paint removed and blended with body filler, then painted. The big discount they should give you would make it worth working on yourself.

I made a large round faced mallet out of lead (10 pounds ) and did this years ago with a 1979 Mazda GLC. Took off the inside panel, removed the glass, and beat it out from the inside. I put the handle for the mallet on the back end not the side like a hammer. There is perhaps a name for that, but I don't have a clue what it is.

I would check salvage yards for a scrap door in good shape. Might even luck out with the right color. Picked one up back in college for an Olds Aurora that had a deer hit. Strasburg, ND is where I got that one.

Rammount suction cups are your friend. I've receive a few dozen cases of beer over the years by pulling out dents. The process isn't always perfect, but has saved friends lots of money over the years.

Make sure there isn't any other damage inside the door like the opener, window and lock mechanism. The dent might be the least of your problems.
