I might get a hankering to look at electronics this spring. I hate things that are only good for a while. Its a laptop or a new sonar. Cant have both. Who has chirp and is it something that one needs for fishing in Nodak co. Somebody was on here buying a garmin 93 series -- who was that and how does she look if you hooked it up to play with? Did reeds have anything worth while at the boat show?

I have chirp, but with limited experience. I didn't get new graphs until closer to the end of open water season. I split the screen between downscan and chirp. A lot of the time, I like what downscan is showing me better. Sorry I'm not more helpful.

Chirp will give you the clearest picture available. It's all about target separation. Being able to see fish hugged to bottom. Or to see fish among bait or trees. Chirp will give you a good advantage. If your a Lowrance user down scan is what I rely on to see fish tight on structure, in trees or weeds. My next unit might be a Simrad, they were the first to get on the chirp bandwagon. Simrad seems to be on the cutting edge being that they target salt water anglers. Salt water fisherman target deep water with high amount of structure fishing; drilling rigs and or sunken ships. You tube helps clarify this alot better than I can explain.

I have an 2 year old Elite 7-HDI and last year picked up an Elite 5-HDI with CHIRP. Even with the smaller screen the CHIRP unit is so much clearer and cleaner I prefer to use it over the bigger unit. Much better definition.
