I am wondering if anyone else has heard of a couple radio ads for car dealerships talking about buying used vehicles. I have a 2012 crew silverado 1500 that I am thinking about selling. I picked up a yukon xl, and just can come to terms with have a 20+K vehicle for a 3rd vehicle. I normally go to a couple dealerships and get their trade in value to get a bottom line. Heard this week that a couple of the dealerships are buying them out right and not just on trade. Has anyone else heard these ads?

yeah they will probably offer you 5-7k less than book had a buddy with an 08 crew cab SB 1500 chevy with 66000 miles they told him 12500 when he called about it, but it never hurts to drag it over and see, if you are planning to sell it anyways.

I sold a truck outright to Corwin's in Fargo.. Got a fair deal I thought. I think Luther's in Fargo does the same.

I have to ask why you would even consider this and not just sell it yourself. There is absolutely no way you will get even close to private party value. They have to make money on it as well, and since they are not offsetting it with a car sale to you, it will be worse than a normal trade in, which are pretty much never good to begin with.

IMO dealers who advertise this are just hoping to get people who need cash quick, which they then low ball because of their situation and make $$$$ on the resale.

There are only a few times in which I will sell a vehicle to a dealer. 1 and only one I have used is the vehicle has issues and I am unwilling to subject someone else with that issue. The reason I am asking is to know where the trade value is. I have looked up kbb, nada, and used black book to get a rough idea of what it is worth. now I want to figure out dealers will do for trade/sale price so I can compare those values I research to real life values.

The main reason I am doing it this way is because I have found that the website don't take into specific region markets. Specifically, farming community and pickup prices. Often times in the past I have looked up the "private party" value on to find out that is the value a dealership will give me for trade. Don't get this whole thing really but doing my research. a difference of 2K would suck

All dealerships will buy used vehicles unless they have a branded title, the used truck market is hot this spring,I suggest doing a Kelly blue book and be real about condition inside and out, dealers will note all body damage, tire wear, lights on the dash etc and how the vehicles runs out then give you a #,now if the # is what KBB is and is acceptable take it,or add $2-$3k and put it on craigs (KBB private party #) list and hope for the best from a private party, transfer title@ your local DMV.

I helped my wife sell a car when we were first married(leased vehicle where we crunched the lease #'s vs buyout and sale). Had a hard time for a private party sale for some reason(usually I can do ok). Checked a couple dealers. One was fair and the other was a silly low ball so my advice would be take it to a couple dealers and compare KBB like Snow mentioned above.

An easy way to determine the approximate cash value of any vehicle is by entering all the information into www.kbb.com., then pretending to want to trade it in on a new vehicle. I found this value to fall between what my bank and my insurance company said a vehicle was worth. The difference between the bank and the insurance company was only $400.
