i shoot a lot of things for sport, so i guess im fine with him shooting a lion for sport

unless he knew he was breaking the law (and i dont care if he knew it was collared/beloved/'tame') he holds no responsibility. that would lay firmly with his outfitter and/or ph

rumor has it he's hiding in nd

end

If he really was in ND he wouldn't have to be in hiding.

Cecil would be an African lion. A lying African is what we have in the White House

This man is not a hunter he is a rich ego trip poacher. Ship him to Africa let them do what they want to him.

The folks in Africa could give two shits if he shot that lion. Its the dumb ass liberals in the good ole US of A that have their panties all bunched up.

I checked out that LionAid.org website. They are an anti hunting group that focuses on protecting lions. Here was what they have to say on the matter:

1. It is completely legal to bait lions in Zimbabwe – it is standard practice. Cecil was shot with a bow and arrow from a blind. That is also legal. Cecil was shot badly and was only put out of his misery 40 hours later. That is what happens regularly in trophy hunting.

2. Cecil was shot outside a national park in a private hunting concession. That is also legal. It is not illegal to kill radiocollared lions.

3. But Cecil was shot in an area not assigned a lion quota. Supposedly the bait was set for a leopard and then Cecil came along. The professional hunter, Theo Bronkhorst told his client to shoot the lion, and then the hunt became illegal.

4. The professional hunter then allegedly attempted to destroy the radiocollar to hide the evidence. Allegedly the client was “furious” when he found that the lion was radiocollared. Allegedly, when a professional hunter engages a client in an area without lion quota, the lion will be listed as hunted in an area that does have quota. This could have been standard practice, but unfortunately Cecil was a well-known lion.

5. The professional hunter and the concession owner are now being investigated. Both were allegedly arrested and released on bail. Bronkhorst has been suspended from the Zimbabwe Professional Hunters and Guides Association. He will likely abscond rather than face trial unless he is confident of the possible bribes he has paid to an entirely corrupt judiciary. The concession owner is allegedly related to the Zimbabwe Minister of Transport and will therefore be immune from prosecution.

6. There seems now to be a desire to find the “client” who shot Cecil. Some say he is Spanish, some say he is American. Whatever his nationality, this man cannot really be prosecuted. A client does what his professional hunter tells him. A client usually has no idea about the laws and regulations of the country he is hunting in – he just buys a safari and then places himself in the hands of his professional hunter guide. Finding the client could be interesting to let him tell his side of the story, but in terms of legal prosecution this person is hardly important.

Again, it appears to me his only wrong doing was hiring a bad guide.

"its too bad someone's favorite lion was shot" a little sarcasm here!!! I really don't care if it was shot legally or not. That is between the PH and the hunter to figure out, but ANIMALS were put on this earth to hunt and provide substance for humans. I will probably never hunt for african lion but from what I have read, african lion meat is given to local villages. The interviews I watched and read today from "animal lovers" were so out of touch it made me instantly irritated. Nobody really cares to talk about how hunting was the way people ate before there where cows and grocery stores. Hunting is getting major opposition in this country and around the world. There are less and less people introduced to hunting year after year. Please educate and take a non-hunter out sometime to show them how it used to be and how we need to continue to hunt to keep every species alive for future generations.

gst, I went over there and read that post. I have butted heads with plainsman many times on his views of what hunting is. I was actually quite surprised at how level headed his responses were. I figured he would have been one of the first ones to grab a rope.

After some of the comments in the "where's everybody at" thread it seems the culling that was done didn;t really change much. Just thought it was kinda amusing.

One thing is clear whether he broke any laws or not; 99% of the people trying to ruin this guys life would be protesting regardless of the legality of this case.

Personally I don't care much for any type of canned hunt, but this issue is way past that now.

They're animal rights whackos, and they don't care about anything else. These nut jobs care more about a rats life than a human. This is just one more incident of the "vocal minority" having way to much influence in this pussified nation!!!

that's for sure. And they are up in arms about shooting a lion but couldn't give a shit about butchering up babies and selling the parts. this country is unfixable.

- - - Updated - - -

real tough guy piling on a dogpile 2 miles deep

and The Nuge has spoken on the subject

Yep. He strikes me as one of those people that complains about animal cruelty as he's shopping for a steak at the local hornbachers.

and drinking fine wines with his food - which come from vineyards in CA, Chile, etc where wildlife habitat is now non-existent

reminds me of vegans who claim their veg only diet is so animal friendly

Unfortunately, the same goes with coffee. "Silent Spring" is a great, but depressing book.

Fargo editorial columnists are weighing in on the situation.

http://www.inforum.com/variety/3807496-lamb-taking-aim-lion-killer

People can easily send him an email at the bottom of his story in this link. I sent one asking when killing an animals became "murder". I asked if he was aware revenues from trophy hunting is what has saved and increased animals numbers in many of these countries.

I suggested perhaps if he was truly concerned about murders happening, perhaps he could focus his efforts on penning witty articles on the actual murders of real people right here in the US by illegal immigrants being given sanctuary in cities that choose to defy Federal law.

Take the time to flood his email and that of the Forum with well written responses.
