hey there, a college kid at UND looking for advice for the devils lake area. Im not asking for any secret hot spots but maybe a general area to go. All i have for transportation is my pick up so preferably areas where i can move around with that. I was thinking about heading to stump as i have heard people are able to drive around on the lake. Again, i have never fished this area and just looking for a some tips. if you'd prefer to pm me thats fine. Thanks in advance.

I would take trip down south of 94 in the perch lakes because they have less snow then we do. https://www.lake-link.com/north-dakota-fishing-reports/

If you do insist on coming here check out devilslakefishingreport.com they have the best up to date fishing reports. As well as either contour map from fishidy, NDGF or navionics would be a must. Must have a fish locator to mark fish is a must also Plan on being able to move lots which means transportation that can get around without getting stuck. Check out woodlands plowed trails as well as their wedsite for more details. Good luck

Interesting devilslakefishingreports.com doesn't have fishing reports sounds like they need to change the name to devilslakewaypointsforsale.com.

Use the information they have to your advantage each way point has a name of the area where they are catching fish. Once you find that area look for areas that have previously been fished which will give you a good idea where to search for the correct depth.

I can't comment on devils lake but I was on the West side of Stump Lake on Saturday and off of HWY 1 on the East side on Sunday. We drove the pickup around on both days. West end has slightly more snow so you do have to pay attention but I never got stuck. Lots of vehicles out there and the ice was good. Off hwy 1 there was a decent amount of snow on the south side but the north side was pretty much bare. Be a little more cautious out there. The closer to shore you get the worse the ice is. we found one spot with about 8" on the south side. North side was about 14". Middle of the lake was over 18"

Get a map and look for contour changes/humps, this lake can be a finicky one if you aren't in the right spots. Access continues to be an issue on the big lake. Many spots are tracks/snowmobiles only this year, unless you like shoveling out a vehicle.

Just saw two pickups drive across creel bay from the west to the Lakewood landing. Half ton dodge was in the lead so it must be improving out there with the warm weather.
