I watched a rooster fly right into a power line last year, hit it so hard he fell dead, and was then part of my dogs retrieve and eventually part of my limit. Hope the game wardens are okay with me collecting a bird I didn't shoot myself

does a bird hitting a power line count as party hunting

I saw this while partridge hunting. I picked the partridge up.

Camo, where abouts you located that you see scoters on a regular basis? Thats pretty cool.

I live is Bis/Man area. McKenzie slough and te Missouri River are not entirely uncommon areas to see some scoters. Far from an abundance of them, but at least a few every year.

I've seen that happen twice. Once I was posting and saw the bird (hen) coming for ~3/4Mi, hit the wire on the other side of the road behind me and decapitated herself. 2nd was a bird buried in snow next to a prairie trail, we could just see his tail feather tips sticking out. Guy hunting with us tried to fall on the bird, it escaped, flew ~100yds and clunked a wire, it was his ultimate demise.

I would be very curious to see these scoters since I spend a great deal of time near both bodies of water and have seen exactly 4 scoters in all my years and they were all on arena at one time and two of them didn't survive the encounter. Scoters come through ND in pulses once every few years or so but most years there are next to none. Through in the fact that they are brown when they come through and picking them out of a crowd is a tall order unless they are dumb enough to not leave the ditch when you go flying by in a truck.:;:thumbsup
