Is the tribe concerned about the water or that these wells are on private land within the reservation boundaries and they won't get the royalties?

" The tribe appealed the federal permitting of the drilling site, which falls within the boundaries of the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation, because it violates tribal setback requirements from the lake, said Tribal Chairman Mark Fox. "

" Helms said the well pad is located on private land and involves private, state and federal mineral rights."

Could get interesting, especially since up until this point it's been all white people at Van hook screaming bloody murder over this one.

I haven't heard anybody really say much about it. I have a cabin there and there hasn't been much talk with others I've talked to

Really? I was there for awhile the weekend before the fourth and it seemed to be the hot topic down there.

Somebody should start a go fund us page so we can milk this. Boats and campers till freeze up then we can build ice roads and move a bunch of old trailer houses and campers out on the ice later on. How much did DAPL protesters get paid a day ?

maybe with the campers but I haven't heard any lot holders say anything really. it really isn't bothering anybody. little noisy but they'll be gone soon so I don't see where it's a big deal.

I read that they get to finish the well that is currently being drilled to the point of casing set, not sure if it is reffering to surface casing (doubt it), intermediate 7" (probably) or the horizontal leg...

If the tribe raises too much hell about this they might have to start drilling their own wells with their own rig.

I know little about this well site other than the occasional comment on here and once in awhile an article in the paper. That being said, I find it interesting that 7 or so wells have been dug out of the 8 planned and now it's a problem. Makes me wonder how a permit was ever granted in the first place.

Again I have little knowledge of drilling as I don't live close to it but 800 feet seems pretty close to one of ND's premier bodies of water. Doesn't seem to me like a blowout would take very long to reach the water.

there are a bunch of wells within 800' of the lake. scattered all over from McKenzie bay to Williston. This is like the umpteenth hundred one.

As far as oil related possible problems go I don't think a drilling rig is in the the top ten. Of all the things that go wrong on a rig, having oil spilling all over the place is a rarity. I'd be more nervous about a piece of pipe flying in my direction.

I have been there the last 6 weekends. I have to agree with eyexer on this. I haven't heard much talk about it either. my wifes family has 3 lots there and other than driving by " trumps wall" as they dubbed it that's the extent of the talk. the drilling has not stopped I'm not involved in the oil at all but the rig was screeching this weekend and going up and down whatever the hell that means!!! haha

The screeching noise you hear is the brakes, Friction from the brake pads against the drum when they lower the pipe.
