OK boomer. But yet this thread feels like it is 10 years old when I see all of the live units on the ice these days. What the heck is a flasher anyways?
When my Ice 55 went down I didn't exactly have $3,000+ to drop on a new setup, still can't quite justify it. $500 or so on sale FL30 was a little easier to swallow, then on my way home blew a tire on my truck so that was $1,000-1,500 to replace all of them, they were due but was hoping to limp them a little longer
Not being sarcastic because I am prone to screw ups but pray tell how you managed to do that. I want to know so that I can hopefully avoid the same issue. Thanks in advance.I dropped my fifth wheel unto my own pickup, talk about a double nut kick. 2 deductibles, 2 items needing to go to the shop, and one happy wife...
Agreed, spent hours/years staring at my fl8 when it first came out better than watching a bobber for hours wondering if there is fish down there.then fl18 with zoom and low power for shallow water and to filter out zoo plankton in fertile lakes, game changer.must be close to 20 years on the FL18. Hoping to get that much more out of her.
I slay the eyes with my old tech, and cheap lures.
So how was the insurance company to deal with? You happen to have any inside info or know the adjuster?I dropped my fifth wheel unto my own pickup, talk about a double nut kick. 2 deductibles, 2 items needing to go to the shop, and one happy wife...
That's what I have been wondering but I don't know squat about them but I have an old 688 DI with a flasher that seems to work just fine for ice fishing. One guy who is high tech with fishing stuff stopped by and even complimented about how well it was working.IDK why anyone would waste money on any of these flashers if they have any type of modern graph. Go buy the ice ducer, a lithium battery, and a Genz box or build your own box. It'll work just as well and will be cheaper.
Nope, I’m not old like you. I’m a proud Gen XerOK boomer.

I have that C-Fish camera too.I have a FL20.. close to 10 yrs now. Bought the wife a C-Fish camera about 10 yrs ago also..think that company went out of business? Bad reviews? Not sure as our is still working great....albeit getting a new battery a few yrs ago..altho the damn thing is bulky..hahaha.. Bought an ice ducer for my Helix 5 and mounted on a genz box about 4-5 yrs ago. My observations of each of them: Full disclaimer here...90 % of the time I ice fish with my wife and we are do not move around much when we do go out...either in our portable or in our Zackshack. Kinda pain to bring the vex and bird and camera all along but i do..
Best unit whilst fishing during the daytime or no stained or cloudy water? Hands down the camera! The wife has set the hook on numerous eyes/perch before the spring bobber has made its way up from the fish bite to the bobber..just by watching the screen and seeing the fish bite the lure.....all the while my vex or bird is showing red.....damn...during clear water and light conditions..camera rules..
If fishing in other of those conditions, the vex or bird are good.. bird prob has my vote with the gps.
IMPO. carry on.
We old timers know things, fix things ( thankgoodness for duct tape)I figured - I’m the second to last of the breed (1963)

Yeah but swearing and having a flame out makes one feel gooderI extended the jacks to beyond the pin, when they clicked, I assumed they were locked into the power part of the jack. When I lifted the jacks with the power lift, and it freed itself from the 5th wheel hitch it in almost slow motion pulled away from the pickup dropping itself unto the tailgate, smashing the rails of the box, the tailgate, a hole in the bottom of the box where the hitch hit, and crushing the nose of the 5th wheel.
The guy at Roughrider where I was dropping the camper off for some service work came running over after hearing the crash, and said. "man you sure are calm, I would be pitching a fit." I said, "Yup after years of reacting that way, I have come to understand it really doesnt help at all."
I would post a picture, as I still have it on my phone, but I will have to some other time, as my phone is not with me at this time.
Thanks for sharing but what a sickening feeling it must have been. So far over the past 8 years I have only destroyed 2 pickup tailgates and one jack by closing the tailgate and then pulling away from the camper. I try to have my wife around while hooking and unhooking for another pair of eyes but we don't always agree on the procedure. Not sure Kurt. Perhaps ducer cable? connection?Just bought a used fl 20 using my graph for mapping in the side by side. It has the Tri beam ducer . It works good on wide and narrow beam but when set to middle one it reads 3 ft and nothing else. Is it shot or am I missing something
