The word is he committed suicide. We never know what demons even the most successful people are battling.

Lots of reports about it being suicide. A couple, including Sporting Shooter are saying he died sheep hunting. I feel like the company would have stated if it was sheep hunting to smash the rumor mill. We will likely get the story soon.

I know I've heard him mention a couple times that he battles CTE on a daily basis. Real sad deal either way.

Prayers for his family. Industry lost a guy who brought lots of innovation to the clothing side of things.

Very very sad. Such an innovator. One of the very few folks that when he spoke I listened.
It was suicide, so hard to understand sometimes.

Yep he did.
Interesting...you would think the company (Gor-Tex) he sold Sitka too would have had a stronger non-compete clause. Seems weird that you would buy a company and then let that person start your direct competitor the next year.

If I recall, he was forced out to save costs. So, no non-compete signed. If I'm thinking of the same person, he had a well written essay written about it. He refused to cut quality to make meet price points or something like that.

Plus I think gore jumped on after his partner bought him out. I wasn’t a fan of how he went about stuff but there is no denying he brought the clothing market for hunters in to the 21st century. At least up to speed with the mountaineering clothes

A LOT of individuals who play pioneering or founding roles in new industries/niches are, well.... complicated.

And they are, frankly, a PITA to be around a lot of the time.

Ask me how I know.

RIP Mr. Innovator. We thank you and wish you Godspeed.

Gary Loomis went on to Temple Fork Outfitters rods, Lindner’s sold in-fish and started Angling Edge, etc.

I still haven't seen a confirmed cause of death. I saw reports of accidental discharge last night as well. Either way, sad deal and I wish his family and friends all the best. Happy there are people like him in the world who love to push the boundaries and try new things. I'll thank him again when the gear goes back on this year.
