Not sure, friends and family for now. I just hate not having enough asparagus in the spring! Now that I have some room, figured Id solve that problem.

In a few years you will be picking every day! If you miss 3 days the asparagus will be 2 feet tall.

Got a 30' row of potatoes and a 12' row of carrots to dig yet for winter supply. Got a lot of green bell peppers left yet if anyone needs any and maybe some acorn squash.

don't be digging carrots yet. the longer you can leave them in the better they get, of course before they freeze. 2 - 13' rows of carrots. Will pull one every other day after a good hard frost to see where they are at before harvesting them all. They get sweeter don't ya know.

Planted 50 cloves of garlic today. Tough tilling due to frozen ground.

Dug mine out of the fuckin mud after the snow disappeared.

I ended up drying the mud off the carrots on a screen. Windy and cool weather helped.

The ground is freezing quickly this year. It's going to be a interesting spring.

Water will run off the ground like off a ducks back. Wet spring next year and its an instant crap show.

Dug my carrots sunday, ground was muddy and it was miserable work. got them all packed away in moist peat tho and they should keep through the winter, didnt wash, just wiped as much mud off as I could. Didnt do a good job thinning them this year so ended up with a bunch of little scrawny ones, but still plenty of keepers... Also planted garlic last weekend, not sure how much, but enough! Also moved 14 5-8ft apple trees from my yard out to the country, that was a lot of work digging those bastards out!

Dog likes carrots, she kept stealing them....


Planted 25 'super sweet' sugar maples for future syrup production, hoping they grow well, SM arent exactly native to this area... Kinda hard to see in picture, they are all 2-3ft tall sticks essentially.

For those that start some of their vegi garden indoors, what generally works for you and when do you start the seeds? Our fam got back into gardening last year and would like to improve on our process this spring. Any info will be appreciated.

I normally start tomato seeds around April 10th. They are always ready to plant about May 25th. I wait until the end of May or early June to plant. Peppers are started after the tomatoes, they don't like cool weather. Some start earlier but this always works for me.

Checked the calander and I started seeds indoors April 21 last year. Tomatoes still got a little leggie due to late spring.

Would love to start a massive asparagus patch from seed this year. Luckily I have multiple wild asparagus patches scoped out while I wait the 3 plus years it'll take till they're ready.

Any tips for starting tomatoes indoors? Did some last year and it seemed they got moldy or something (white on leaves) and never really recovered with the cool summer.

I use the hydro grow plugs from Gurneys. Comes in different size kits and works well for me. This year I will have 3 of the 55 cell starters for different veggies and flowers. I also use a seeding boost fertilizer once the plants are 3" tall.

Put my usual order in to Gurneys for about half of what I plant. They got the 100$ off if you spend 200$ until Feb 29. What I still need I buy from the local nursery's. Sold enough last year to cover my expence's this year so it doesn't bother my fun money. Still gave away a coupla tons of stuff to friends and family. LB

biggest problem most people have starting seeds indoors is overwatering and not enough light. Either of those will easily wreck your attempt. Ive found a good seed starting mix is 3 gallons pro mix, 2 gallons perlite and 1 gallon of vermiculite. If you add 1tbsp osmocote plus / 2 gallons of mixture you should have about the right amount of fertilizer for many plants. You can also buy seed starting mix, and for small quantities of plants thats not a bad option.
