Anybody went to Canada recently with a DWI? Planning a trip up and a friend had a DWI back in 2017, wondering if he will get thru or what he needs to do to not have any issues at the border.
They go back to 10 years so unless he lies or has a waiver from the Queen he is not getting through.
This from experience.

One step closer to the end.
Is there a way to get the state DMV to expunge the ticket? I thought I heard of a guy getting that to work as I know after a DUI he was on several fishing trips to Canada.

They seem to be going back even farther. Last summer I hit the border with a friend that had one 12-13 years ago. NOPE. We had to turn around.
In the 90's I was turned around and it was over 10 years also. But I could have got in had I paid them. It was around $500 or so then. And you'd have to pay that every time unless you applied for a lifetime pass that was even more. So like I said earlier, if you want in, just bring a bunch of cash.

I had a conversation with a Canadian Border Patrol last month at the Pembina Crossing and he stated that if the DUI was pre 2018, you "should" have no problem crossing. I asked him several questions after that and he referred back to that answer, always. He stated that anything post 2018, you will have to go through the steps with Canada. And he was the senior guard in charge that day.

Headed there Wednesday morning, no DUI on my record so not worried. The fella that was going to go with me from Dickinson had one 14 years ago, but decided to cancel the trip with me, he didn't want to get to the boarder and end up heading back because of it.

My other buddies have been fishing hard up there for a few days now, and hammering them. Cant wait.

3 years ago they caught a guy in our group who didn't disclose his DUI and still let him in...

We went in mid-FEB this year and had no issues at all. Smoothest border crossing yet.
