Went in Monday got to hospital at 11 am and around 2:30 they took me to pre-op. Had a heart surgery before mine and some other kind of surgery too. The person before me ended up having a stroke while in surgery which isn't good at all. I never got into the operating room until 4:30 and was in there until 6:30 as more complications. My right Carotid artery ended up being just about plugged all the way, just a pin hole the Doctor said for the blood to flow through. They don't like to do surgery after 95% plugged as risk of stroke is way higher i guess and other reasons too. Anyway they had to do mine as they had the artery opened up and trying to close it back up with the plaque in there is tough and he said it isn't if you will have a stroke again it is when or how soon.
I guess they were showing the people in the operating room how plugged it was and what it looked like. He said it was really a mess and it took quite a while cleaning it out as they want and need to get it all or just a small piece will also give you another stroke if it passes through to the brain.
Pretty sore this morning and starting to swell up along the neck. It is slit from the bottom of the ear all the way to the collar bone. Looks way nastier than the left side that we had on June 4th. Will take a shower this morning and spend most of the day here at home in bed with ice packs on every hour or so for 20-30 minutes to try and keep the swelling to a minimum.
One good thing is my tongue hasn't gotten numb this time which is a blessing all by itself!
Want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers as no doubt in my mind they all helped especially after finding out how plugged the right Carotid was and the seriousness of it all. Doctor was pretty worried as he explained it to us and he said i hope you realize how blessed you are to come through all of this, this well. I/We do feel blessed and not in just this instance but in life itself. Many pitfalls and rough patches in life but always came through them somehow and not always for the better but survived them and learned some valuable lessons along the way.
Thanks again everyone we really appreciate the kind words, prayers, and offers of help!
My bride and i have really done some hard thinking through all of this and we decided we are going to be selling our house here in Bismarck and living full time in Arizona once the house is completed down there. It was suppose to be done in July or August but was stopped after the framing, shingling, siding, windows, and exterior doors were all put on. We have to do a walk through with the electrician and plumber for where we want to put anything not normally installed in certain places. We were suppose to do that on May 14th but the stroke on May 3rd/4th put everything out of kilter. So we are hoping now to go down sometime after our 2 week checkup so guessing around first part of August to middle of August. So that will put the house completion around late September to late October we think.
My bride kept pointing out to me that i am a worrier and no matter where we are at if in Bismarck we will worry about the house in AZ and if in AZ will worry about the house in Bismarck. So to try and make life somewhat simpler to just get rid of our house here.
Anyway here is the update and once again thanks to all and we mean this from the bottom of our hearts. You all are very special to us and this is what friendship is all about! I am so thankful that i am able to thank you all as it could have very easily went the other way and turned out bad.
May our dear Lord bless you all in your lives as he continues to bless ours! :;:exactly :;:thumbsup
