I haven't followed DL stockings. Are these big increases historically?

I did notice many of the prairie lakes in central ND saw quite a bit less for stocking #'s this year compared to the previous 4-5 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those small lakes in central ND winterkill this year. The water is WAY down as of a couple of weeks ago on a few of those lakes.

Are they thinking they are not getting the natural reproduction they need? Thought they said they don't need to restock, or is the fishing pressure too much? Can't imagine a lake that big could get fished out even if you tried.

with the smaller lakes going down make me wonder if the reason for stocking dl so much is why put them in a lake that mite winter kill.

i think they had a record hatch at the hatchery I just read they stocked a record 150+ walleye lakes so I'm not sure they are too worried about that. I'm just went through a list of a lot of the lakes I fish in SC ND and they all have increased or roughly the same amount stocked. only glaring one I saw was sibley which appears wasn't stocked this year. maybe thats because 12-14" walleyes jump in your boat there and they didn't need it IDK but the others I fish stayed the same.

Someone tell me where they dumped them in at.......I wanna go fish right there. I'd love to fry me up some walleye fingers-lings! PM with GPS coords works just fine. Need a smaller stringer now....

Now if only they could get more than 2 people for the whole state to do ANS checks. I've fished DL/stump 12 days this summer and I've seen the creel census guys a documented 5 times. There oughta be someone with the authority to write tickets sitting in that little booth as you drive in/out of Grahams. No more warnings, fines on the way in/out if you're plug's in or you've got water in your well. I was going to call into Hammer's show this afternoon and ask GP about ANS but he didn't stick around to field any calls. Bask in the limelight then leave early before anyone asks questions.

It did look like the south central area looked pretty steady, however the more north you go it seemed like the numbers went down when compared to past years. Maybe has more to do with the fisheries personnel for the region requests for #'s. IDK, but if they truly had a record year at the hatchery, Im not sure why the #'s on these lakes would decrease.

There could be some logic there, however they have always said they are one dry year away from summerkill/winterkill. If they went off of what "could" happen, most of these lakes wouldn't have seen any stocking efforts.

the game and fish nazi (skuza) in the garrison area, says it has to be out comming up the ramp... but most people get to the top and off to the side and pull it and it is not allowed in while you drive down the road... I watched him make a guy drain it into a bucket after he pulled off to the side one day, I try to drain mine down the ramp if it's not busy

met this guy on 2 occasions. both goose hunting. the one day he rolls up starts counting our birds and was putting darks in piles of 5. making comments about how we shot A LOT of darks he was watching. ( this was the year the limit went to 8) he counts them and has a puzzled look on his face. my brother chimes in and goes not sure why your putting them in piles of 5 because the limit is 8. a light bulb comes on and he realizes were at our limit (24) then lets his dog out and runs him over to the corn fence line/corn field and has him sniff around. dog doesnt find anything which were not suprised we had nothing to hide. then the fkr has the nerve to go " wheres the rest of them" and were like WTF are you talking about. heres our limit of darks, maybe 20-25 snows as well and i think a limit or close to ducks. guy was a grade A duesch to us. think he was embarrassed about forgetting the rules.

as far as the stocking, i didnt look north of 200 at all so that very well could be.

on the ND G&F website it did say they in fact did have a record hatch at both hatcherys this year. i would link the article but i am in fact too dumb to do so...

Well just a SWAG here but would guess devils lake fell pray to what us Oahe and Sakakawea guys know all to well. That would be falling water levels during and just after spawn tends to leave large amounts of the eggs high and dry wiping out much of that years year class of fish.

During two weeks in April the water drops enough to strand eggs? That's feet of water.... in just days.
