Thanks for letting me join everyone! Looking to go out fishing this weekend my buddy wants to go to sweet briar but I have never caught anything but a buzz out there, any recommendations on anything close to my area. I live in Mandan and would prefer to stay close. thanks in advance

I have it on pretty good authority that Lake Geneva (east of Bismarck, near Steele) is a dead-zone. Two summers ago, it was fun, but might have experienced winter-kill winter-before-last. I know it's not good news, but it's good to know, so you don't waste time.

Ive caught some nice fish south of mandan in the back water area near ft rice boat ramp in past winters, pike and a few walleye in there. Id agree, Sweetbriar sucks...

Go to beaver bay. Maybe won't hammer them but could and most likely will have some action.

I can't say to much for the bite. But I can tell you I drive by sweet briar everyday and there are at least a dozen spots where people are fishing that weren't there in the morning. Same goes for crown butte. Must be catching somethimg???

Crown butte is pretty good for panfish action, unlikely you'll catch much of keeping size though. River/Beaver bay is really about the only option within 50-60 miles of town (big reason why there's 100 permanents out there).

I miss last year when there was too much snow for the ice castle army to descend like flies on shit.

Also, Audobon and Beaver are both 60 miles from Bismarck. There isn't much within 50 miles, but there is a lot between 50-100 miles away.
