Dang. At this stage of the game in my mind the best case scenario would have been a self-inflicted cause of death. I’m sad to hear that is not the case. It just adds to the number of lives turned upside down in the aftermath.

Bad deal no matter what the cause is/was.
Murdock and I would get into some heated discussions at times on fishing buddy but i certainly don't want/wish this to happen to anyone.
While some of us disagree and things might get pretty heated at times, i don't wish or want any one of you to have any harm come to you or your loved ones!
May he Rest in Peace!

I want to clear this up as someone brought it up to me...I was not referring to suicide here. That was the furthest thing from my mind when I posted this. I obviously chose my words very poorly - sorry about that.

I was more so crossing my fingers he was not accidentally shot by another person hunting with him or by anyone else. This is a bad situation but a one person accident can happen (accidentally misfire, etc.) that ends in the person with the gun being the victim. That is an absolute tragedy but knowing he did die, I was just hoping no one else was involved and has to go on with life dealing with having accidentally taken someone else’s...especially that of a friend.

I feel terrible for anyone who knew Murdock and also for anyone else who unfortunately was involved. This is a bad deal all around.

I absolutely can not fathom what this would be like.

I look at discussion about Murdock as a celebration of his Life. Nothing more, Nothing less. He was a fun guy who liked to joke around and have fun and will be missed by many.

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - A Minot man has been charged with manslaughter after prosecutors say he shot another man in the head while hunting coyotes.
Friday, 58-year-old Andrew Azure was issued a criminal summons for crimes stemming from January 2021 shooting death of Dale Merbach in McHenry County.
Azure is charged with manslaughter, a class B felony. If convicted, he could face 10 years in prison. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of ingesting methamphetamine.
Judge Michael Hurly set Azure’s initial appearance for Dec. 21.

How exactly is ingesting meth only a misdemeanor

I've never done meth in my life, but in the grand scheme of all criminal offenses that can be violent, nonviolent, harmful or deadly to others or simply harmful to only one's own self, it makes absolutely perfect sense to me why a person simply ingesting meth is only a misdemeanor, or why a person putting any kind of harmful substance into their own bodies is only a misdemeanor. If there are subsequent actions like driving or an act of violence that open them up to other criminal offenses of a higher level, well that's a different story, but a person just solely ingesting meth? That is not worthy of a felony in any way, shape, or form in my opinion. I could draw a parallel to a person drinking themself to a passed out, vomitting stupor, or going back through the all-you-can-eat buffet line for the third time, or mountain climbing with absolutely no harnesses or ropes. If you get a thrill out of putting your life at risk but don't put others at risk in the process, have at it. Of course, the rest of us get to foot the bill because of your actions...but we are all guilty of doing things that cost others money so I'm going to step off the hypocritical soapbox before going down that path.

Anyway, I don't like that people do drugs any more than the next guy, and there are a lot of criminal offenses in my opinion that don't carry a harsh enough label or sentence, but this isn't even close to one of them.

When fishing anywhere on the W side of Devils Lake, I keep waiting to see a glimpse of a phantom Dodge Pickup cruising along the bottom. I believe the ghost of Murdoch would do that just to F with any of the FBO old guard.

not the same guy. the guy charged has about as close to a clean record as a fella can get for a 1962 model. no criminal convictions or charges of any kind since 1995.
