I just had my knee scoped last week. My question to you guys who have had knee surgery is: how long til you were able to get back out hunting. I have only been at home for a week and already going nuts

My friend had this done last winter(February I think) and was back to his bowling league in 3 weeks. Had it done on his slide leg, so I think its a pretty quick recovery for a scoped knee.

I went on a camping/trapping/coyote hunting trip 2 weeks after surgery. I walked and climbed a lot. Was very slow but managed just fine.

That's good. I am getting around pretty good on it but I can tell it is pretty darn weak yet and I'm slower than molasses but getting better. Hopefully I'm able to get back to work soon as well.

I had my knee scoped the end of July and had 90% of my interior meniscus removed. I have been bowhunting a few times in the last two weeks and have no pain but don't have the strength back yet. I can tell when I walk on a side hill that it's just not quite back to par yet.

They scoped it than if I am right they cut the ligament on the outside of the leg so that it will hopefully tighten up more towards the inside if I understand correctly. I have a fairly long history of patella dislocation

Might be tricky but you want to start strengthening your quads. Depending on which way it tracks, you want to do the opposite side portion of the quad (vastus medialis or lateralis). Keeps that patella held in place.

Also, if they did intentionally cut that MCL, you'll want a good brace for stabilization. Walking side hills with the post-surgical knee will be tough, especially with that mcl facing down hill.

Not that it helps you or makes u feel any better but I wish I would have never gotten mine scoped. And I have heard that from quite a few folks. I still have pain and it clicks and pops every time I bend it.

Thats why I went in for damn surgery! Also they say once u open it up chances are high u will have to do it again.

If you don't mind me asking bow hunter. How long till you were able to go back to work. I guess it could be different from myself. I don't know what you do I work a job that can be physically demanding at times. With a lot of deep knee bending

I went back to work right away. I had it done in the wintertime. I can sit in the office during the winter. I hobbled around on crutches for maybe a week.

As far as deep knee bending u are screwed. Lol.

I physically could not bend my knee for quite awhile. I don't remember how long but for awhile there I was wondering if I ever could again

Sounds like you had an LRR done. Lateral Retinacular Release. As a PT, my advice is to listen to your PT. In my experience, an LRR done for chronic patellar subluxation/dislocation is a PITA to rehab.
Every knee problem is a bit different, and every surgery for those problems is a bit different. Getting general advice from others is OK, but don't compare recovery time too closely.
Hope you have a speedy recovery and a pain free hunting season.

Read the above and ignore every other recommendation you get, no matter how "good hearted" it may seem. Your PT will guide you to the promise land. Don't take shortcuts, don't skip exercises.

Can't help you with the scoped knee. I can tell you that with a broken tibia with 3 screws holding it together and a broken fibula with a walking cast up to my junk; I was hunting 10 days later and walked about 2 miles the first day. Better living through medication!!!!

Found out later that I had also cracked C7 in my neck/back and I wondered why I had a dull ache between my shoulder blades for a while!

Bouncing around inside the cab of a grain truck as it rolls can be hazardous to your hunting. ;:;badidea

Lat Ret release id go hunting, unless they told you that u had a severe meniscus tear u should be good to go. Dirty mike aren't u a chiropractor? Have u ever heard of someone having their MCL intentionally cut in surgery?!?! And I believe he did say outside not inside, hence LCL not that they woulda cut that either. If he would have had an LCL or MCL repaired he would have known, just saying....
