Ice Fishing Salmon on Sakakawea

Have any of you targeted them in the winter? I have never caught one through the ice, but caught several fishing walleyes shortly after ice out.

Never heard of anyone targeting them, but have heard of them being caught in winter. Freight train runs though and I bet more guys hook'em with their walleye tackle and get spooled than we know. You'd need some line capacity to deal with them buggers. It wouldn't matter the size of salmon I landed through the ice, it'd be on the wall. Good Luck!!

I was going to start this same topic. I do remeber a guy posting pics and catching a few last winter. Ive also heard of them being caught frequently at the mouth of rodeo bay. Rodeo I believe was when they used to be stocked over there. Im a chicken when it comes to ice especially on the east end of Sak.

I used to do it. Fish govt or scoria bay areas. I usually set 3 dead sticks or tip ups with a small hook thru a big minnows back swimminga couple feet under a weight. Then vertical jig bright colored spoons n stuff. Never got alot, but always caught at least one.
