Any idea on what goes in to darting and moving something like a moose or a bear? Or the idea of "habituation"? Cost/benefit analysis says taking them out is often the only feasible solution. And raptors are regulated by the Feds, not the state. Might be a different outcome if you call USFWS

That's the scary part, $ 1583.99 later the phesant eating bastard is as good as new again.

Guys that raise elk regularly dart the bulls to remove antlers so they don't rip up shit and other animals. Maybe GNF should try it

Interesting story about ND G&F and Rehabbing animals, old article but obviously still relevant.

Wife did call the zoo in Bismarck this morning just for curiosity sake and they do take them, they have a vet come in weekly and x-ray things and make determination from there, if it is the major wing bone then they usually put them down if a minor wing bones they can fix even re-break and re set and get them going again.

If you happen to have a big dog just let it out to play with said big dog, then not your problem. ND Game and Fish sucks when it comes to injured Federally protected birds. Just saying. A couple years ago I had the same thing happen, injured hawk in the ditch by my place. Called the Game and Fish to come pick it up...they said let nature take it's course so I took my dogs out on their evening walk, as I always do, and that was that.

Now if that happened to be an eagle then holy christ in shit right? Sometimes it is better to not say a word and just "let nature take it's course" of course after calling the proper people ;)

Yep you are very lucky the game warden didn't give you a fine.
It is illegal to even have just a feather from a hawk/owl/raptor etc in your possession.
And the fines aren't cheap as it is a federal offense like you wrote.

If this is true, which I don't doubt, are all the people involved in dancing at pow wows fined? There are more eagle n hawk feathers on their head dress than flying in the sky!

The tribes are a whole different story than you or I.
