I hate the little fellow in your picture Svnmag. I pushed my luck with them yesterday. Per OP: IMHO the cheap bait would be improved by incorporating hard rubber and lead shot. Also IMO jerkbaits should suspend perfectly horizontal. "Special" models could be introduced with heavier aft attitude to compensate for wire.

(another)IMHO: You guys sadly don't appreciate the food value of pike or Tailrace channel cat. I'm the pickiest eater on the planet. Long John Silver's is my benchmark for "seafood". All that "ceviche" shit is disgusting.
