Had a similar experience with Kupper Chevrolet last year. Decided to upgrade to newer pickup from 2008. Puklich had nice 2013 new trade and gave me fair trade offer. Kupper just had a 2015 trade on Saturday. Saw it Saturday afternoon. Talked to salesman on phone. Told him we would look at it Monday. Was late Saturday afternoon. Got an email Monday afternoon that pickup would be ready and upfront after work. Was waiting for my wife to get home. At 5:30 she got home. Thought I better call because we were late. The salesman said they sold it Saturday. Total bullshit! Got a survey and I was not nice. Sales manager contacted me and stated they would never do that and asked for me to send him the email. I sent email. Never a reply back or an apology. Purchased the pickup at Pucklich.
Interesting. I've been the party on the other side. It was at Bismarck Honda. Was one of those days it seemed everyone was out car shopping. I see one I like parked by the front door. I ask the salesman working with me "what's the story on that?" He says "well let me check". He proceeds to chat with a fellow salesman near the car and then reports back to me that a lady was on her way from Minot?? and that if it checked out she'd be buying it. My salesman said she was a ways out still and that "it's a car for sale on our lot and if you'd like to test drive it you can."
I test drove it, said I'd take it, and once I started the paperwork my salesman walked over to the other and told him to call the lady off. Neither salesman seemed overly concerned or tore up about it. Appeared to be just another day in the office.
From the stories on here I'm beginning to think this is typical. I guess I get it. It's likely not a good business practice to turn down cash on the table based on the likelihood of someone else showing up to finish a deal.
This thread has taught me something: "I'd like to purchase __________ , may I put a non-refundable down payment on it over the phone with my credit card? I will pick it up by ________ if that works for you?
