I believe my 38" fit, possibly 40", I had to purchase a 2 piece 48" laker rod as a 1 piece will not fit.

Suggestions on how to mount some kind of rack on the back of a Polaris XC to hold rods, bucket maybe a flasher and tackle box? Its not an extended track or is the seat short, so I don't have much room to work with, along with an auger rack. Im not a welder and don't know any so that is out of the question.

My my father in law made some adjustments. I need to tell him to switch the tube to the other side. I wouldn't want to add any extra work of walking around the sled. Not bad for a receiver hitch rack that he had laying around.

Are the 3/4oz live targets too big? Found a good deal on them, but am worried they are going to be a bit on the large side.

I have another question related to parking. One of the more common spots I have had recommended to me is Chalet Beach. For those of you that have used this spot before, will we be able to get in there with one pickup pulling a 4 place snowmobile trailer and the other pulling a 24' enclosed trailer? If not, where are some other recommendations to get on the lake?

Was there week and half ago. Chalet beach is not used for parking. Warner road is a 1/2 mile north of chalet beach road, this is the common access and park on ice. The ice pushed up bad and we couldn't use this. There is ralph road another 1/2 mile north of warner road (in Matlock) we went on here with 18ft enclosed with no issues (park on ice). Bait shop said they were trying to get the rm to push out warner for access, hadn't happened yet. Some guys park on the gravel road by warner, and run down ditch with sleds or snobear. We fished out from the sal good action.

For the guys who have the snowmobile rack from johnson cargo systems, if you got stuck, could you lift on the rack or would you have to take it off? I us a digger auger holder now but would like to have a rack to put a large tote/trunk for vexilars, tackle, heater, etc. Guywhofishes, you have one dont you? Thoughts?

Fireline crystal 10 pound test. If you have a cheaper hard sided gun case works well for 2-4 rod set ups and you can pick one up for about $30. Nothing worse than having your rods broken when you get to your spot. I agree with all the posts on lures, but for me Jackall has been by far better than live targets? Maybe just a confidence thing, but they seem to be louder with the rattle. Have a couple rods rigged and ready to go with you at all times, one with a rattle bait and maybe a flutter spoon as you may want to do a quick change when marking fish. I have had good luck salting my own minnows using the combo of 1/4 cup pickling salt and 1/4 cup sugar. Mix them together in a Ziploc bag and pour in a scoop of live minnows. Shake minnows in the mixture and lay them flat in your freezer. They last a while and seem to stay on your hook better than the frozen ones you can buy up there. Good luck! Heading up feb 2-5.

We are up here right now. We parked at chalet in the small parking area. We have pulled a 4 place snowmobile trailer in there w/o problems when it's not full. It's rough getting on the lake from chalet. Have to drive across 10'+ ice mounds by the shore The lake seems very rough compared to years past

How is the access getting around the lake besides rough? Can pickups and ATVs get around without tracks?

There are some pick ups diving on but they are limited in some areas. There are quite a few areas where the ice broke up when it was 15-18" thick and created some big ice piles The atvs without tracks are getting to most places the snow is hard enough to dive over with them.

I second the Johnson cargo rack. The design is nice and well made. I saw one on Winnipeg in March. I can not justify $299.00 for this set up. So to the welder I go.....

So here is what I created. Lets See if it holds up to Onterio in a few weeks and Winnipeg in March20170126_101740.jpg20170126_101751.jpg20170126_101801.jpg

Rod holders on the back and side of my ATV rack. Don't have to screw with a case and don't have to worry about busted rods.

yBPcE8t.jpg[/QUOTE

Do your rods get full of snow/slush when on the back? I have a rod holder similar to that on my atv but when i had it on the back rack they filled up with ice from the snow and slush so i moved it to the front center of the front rack to keep them protected. Looks kind of dumb but it works!

A few pictures from last weeks day trip...the first of 4 trips this year.
When it is 10 miles further to go to winnipeg vs. baudette, it is an easy choice!
