Librela injection

We have an 11 year old golden retriever that is starting to have some arthritis issues in his front legs. We tried carprofen but it didn't really help a lot. The vet recommended we try Librela injections. Does anyone have experience with this treatment? Thanks.

Our 10yo Lab has been on it for about a year and a half. Made a world of difference. Vet said it would take 2 to 3 doses before we see any difference but all of her stiffness and limping were gone in 4 days. Didn't think she was going to be able to hunt last year and she did really well. The year before toward the end of pheasant season she would only make about a half of a day before she just couldn't go anymore. It is expensive but well worth it in my opinion. I go a little longer than they suggest. They want you to come in once a month, I go about 6 weeks and havent seen a problem.

Thanks. He lives to hunt so it would be nice for him to get more time in the field.

Don't know how close Rimadyl is to the Carprofen that you were giving, but use to give this to my black lab. Helped her tremendously. Did give sparingly because it is hard on their liver

Thanks. I believe carprofen is the active ingredient in Rimadyl. It didn't seem to help much and it is hard on their organs. So, I thought we might give the Librela a try.

Know a bunch of dogs on it and if it works it’s a miracle at buying them more time in the field working. It’s a trade off as it probably takes some time off the back end but would say it’s worth it as they get a better quality of life.

We tried Librela last fall on our 12 yo wirehair. It definitely seemed to be helping with joint issues until he developed tremors about 3 months into therapy. Vet recommended we dc and restart carprofen / Rimadyl.

Kota (that's him in the avatar) has had 2 injections now and they really seem to be helping with no noticeable side affects. So far, so good.

We've had our 10yo blue heeler on librela for over a year and it's been amazing. It takes 2 months to get max results but we noticed immediately that it was working. After being maxed, we tried waiting until we noticed her slowing down before giving another injection (made it 1 month and 24 days). That gave a baseline for how long we could go between doses, so we give every month and a half. I'm not kidding when I say we went from a dog we'd have to coax to keep up on an easy walk, to one who races off into the bushes for squirrels again. It definitely has made her life a lot more comfortable and, although it's expensive, it's been 110% worth seeing our old dog be young again.
