I want to share an interesting story that happened to me this past weekend.
Saturday for lunch, my wife and I drove over to see my Mom and take her out of the assisted living facility where she currently resides. We invited her sister and her brother/wife to join us for lunch too. These are her remaining, living siblings. My Mom is 94. My Uncle is 91 and my Aunt and other Aunt are in their 80's We got there a few minutes before the scheduled meeting time.
When we got inside I saw that the rest of our party was already there and seated - except for my Uncle. He was on his way to greet us at the door. Remember he is 91... He shook our hands and said Hi to all of us and then walked with us to the table. After we sat down and ordered we had a good time talking with each other. I sat next to my Uncle Guy and he told us all a lot of stories about growing up and how he always tried to hold true to the saying, "Treat others like you would want to be treated."
As we finished up our meals, a fellow customer who was seated behind us came up to our table. She place a one dollar bill on the table in front of my Uncle. This is what she said. "Chivalry isn't dead. Whenever I go out to eat I usually go up to a kid and give them a dollar and let them know why I am giving it to them. Today I am giving it to you. I was watching you the entire time you were here. You remained standing until all of the women with you were seated. And your remained standing and went to greet the rest of your party when they arrived."
Our family was brought up to try to be that way too - Treat others the way you would like to be treated. I often speak the words but I know I could actually do a lot better. I know on this website sometimes I post comments that aren't appropriate if one is holding true to treating other as you would want to be treated. Oftentimes I let my emotions get the better of me. I will try to do better in the future.
