Lottery in process!!!

no... that's not the one. it was just this week when lottery applications became available. sunday or monday. it had a link to a table that i am interested in.

Did you try back on fishing buddy since it has the numbers posted in it?

There are a lot of checks that need to be done before and after the lottery before we make the results public.

We will not be releasing any public results until Monday at the earliest

What debacle could you be talking about like people getting a regular buck tag and a gratis buck tag? Hahaha I wonder what the excuse was for taking so long last year cause obviously they didn't have the checks in place

I am pretty sure the NDGF has explained the reason for the additional 2 week delay to what we have now vs some years ago is the Gratis Tag situation.

If I remember right, this is a simplified version of the situation...
High tag number days
100,000 tags total
estimated 30,000 to gratis and so removed 30,000 tags from lottery pool
ran the lotteries with 70,000 tags available and reported results
then spent following weeks issuing gratis tags

New way with low tag numbers
60,000 tags total
start with gratis applications and issue or allocate the exact amount of tags
29,456 tags go to gratis (are subtracted from 60,000 total)
Begin lottery with 30,544 tags available


So they claim this new sequence will benefit the people in the lottery because it will take advantage of all possible buck tags available. In the example above 544 addition tags were added to the lottery that wouldn't be there if they kept the old process.

Not sure how they do it but you'd think they would run the lottery first and everyone that puts in for a gratis and the drawing get a shot at the drawing first and if unsuccessful they automatically get a red tag. We used to put in for the lottery and when we didn't get drawn we'd go to the Game & Fish dept and get our gratis tags so there were way more bucks shot than they had accounted for and this went on from the time the lottery started until 2 years ago.

There must have been a lot that got two tags last year, my neighbor got two tags and they didn't call him on it until well after bow season started.

I spoke with 3 different people that immediately after the lottery their preference points went to zero and one went from 5 to 2. But they were also unsuccessful in the lottery. When they called the G&F office for an explanation they were told they (the applicant) made a mistake on their application and put down the wrong social security number. When pressed further on how that doesn't make sense or why that would put their points at zero they just responded by saying no one is guaranteed a tag, it's never a for sure thing, but they will review the points and correct them.

This all happened in a matter of hours after results were available online. Something was really messed up and the response by the game and fish sure made it seem like they had zero clue. I honestly think they had people in the draw without their correct preference points and it wasn't caught until after the lottery happened so no going back.

It was discussed by others on a thread a year ago.

There are about 30K gratis tags.

Would that mean that nobody would get a tag except for landowners??

Probably - that's happening with a few tag types in a couple of units already.

Well, if someone wanted a coveted tag in another zone, that would be a good loophole to rack up preference points! I mean, if you're a patient man.

I am pretty sure billy bob at game and fish pulls Edith’s (because grandma is the landowner) gratis tag from the bingo tumbler machine then hand delivers it to her…then moves on to the next tag…upon completing this process billy bob types the results in to his Commodore 64 then prints out all the denyed app letters on his dot matrix printer…

I was looking for information to show that but I'm not coming up with it yet. I believe it up was occurring up in the NE part of the state.

ETA: Found the info. It was anterless tags that went to 0. A few units didn't have much for antlered tags left either.

you go ahead and apply for a unit you have no chance to draw in order to gain preference points. You will gain them at the exact same rate that I will get them by actually applying in that coveted zone.

The only difference. I actually have a possibility of still getting drawn with few points, you on the other hand...

It would work OK for the guy who doesn't really want to or can't hunt that year but still acquire a point.
