also... most of the problems people see with measure 3 can and will be fixed by the legislature. probably over "fixed". just like they did with medical MJ. if you are waiting for the perfect measure to come along, you will be waiting a long time. the legislature will NEVER legalize it themselves. if you have any inclination at all that you are in favor of legalization under "different" or "perfect" circumstances, then i suggest you take this opportunity to vote "yes". opportunities like this don't come along too often in states like this. hell... we can't even get a fix to our blue laws in an initiated measure. our conservative old white males in bismarck will "fix" the eff out of this measure. so, much so that it will probably be unrecognizable by the time they are done with it. and their "fixes" will probably address most of your concerns. some or most of which are very valid. but, easily addressed.

I could care less if the bill passes as I like ND the way it is. IMO the issue at hand is the legal drugs being abused in ND not the illegal ones. in ND.

you can be charged and found guilty of Driving Under the Influence of drugs without a breath test. you fail field sobriety tests, get arrested, search warrant for your blood based on PC, drugs turn up in your system... combine the erratic driving, failed FST and drug(s) in your system and its a good case for DUI (drugs/narcotics). not brain surgery and it happens every day. before refusal became a crime, folks were charged and convicted of DUI (alcohol related) every day without a breath test. now the refusal itself is a crime. so, its become less of an issueD.

It is really hard to convict someone who has a prescription.

not extremely. depends on the drug. many that are of concern literally say on the label "don't operate a motor vehicle". so, if you are stopped for a traffic offense, looked fucked up, fail FSTs, they get a drug recognition officer (preferred. but, not necessary), then get a search warrant for your blood and it turns up some prescription you aren't supposed to be operating a motor vehicle on, thats a decent case. especially if the blood levels are high. its not an ideal case. lots of SAs are sympathetic to prescription DUis for some reason. baffles me actually. i know more than a few folks with oxy scripts that absolutely should never drive and do all the time. they are like walking zombies.

I have dealt with meth addicts and it is not pretty. But dealing with opioid addicts is just horrible because they feel they are in the right due to the prescription.

it is legal in 8 states and the District of Colombia. how the hell can it be legal in DC???.
pretty sure if if everybody knew how many people actually smoke weed a lot of people would be shocked.
i was in Colorado before it was legal and after and honestly I didn't notice any difference. smelled the same amount of mj smoke on the ski hills. only difference there were a few dispensary's around.
some people say nd will be a destination for a lot of less ambitious people. Doesn't our state have a shortage of workers? every gas station and convenience store have help wanted signs? I would think they could come to nd smoke weed legally and get a job.

I was around plenty of stoners in college. Some very smart and some not so smart. The weird part is they thought it helped them in many ways, but all I saw was red eyes and an attitude change. Kind of like how people become better looking in their mind while boozed up. I think the calming effect can help a lot of “amped up” people, but you can do that without THC. If you could remove booze and replace it with this stuff I think it would be a win. For some it might replace it, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a smoker not drink as well. I’m on the fence at the moment. Interesting to say the least.

I also agree that this stuff is way better than an opioid, but then we start going down the medicinal path rather than discussing recreational.

Kinda but not really, this will make it available to many people who currently would never qualify for medical as it is since legislature messed up that law. Every state that legalized recreational has seen significant drops in opioid deaths... Something to consider.

I don’t know if legal weed will help reduce opioid addicition at all. Those addicts prefer to crush the pills and snort them.

It wont cure addiction, what it does is give people a better option for pain control, decreasing peoples use of and subsequent addiction to opioids... Comprende?

I get what you are saying but I don’t think it will be that simple as long as doctors have to prescribe the pills.

What would be the level of thc in the blood stream to demn it under the influence. I guess we wait for the legislation to come through??? I though that some of the reason to vote yes to this measure was to snub the legislature for not considering medical marijuana. Now we want to pass this bill and let them fix it. Doesnt make sense to me?!!

I agree with Jay kay. Find me a benefit of smoking this in a recreational way...

You are correct. You can be convicted with just FST. I have many good friends in Law Enforcement and trust them wholely. But, I still believe that some testing beyond subjective (lateral eye movement, heel-toe, etc) is necessary. Many arrested under just FST testing get off as compared to those that also have breathalyzer, Intoxalyzer, or BAC testing to back it up. Unfortunately me at a .08 vs others I shouldn't be behind the wheel and I'm sure if they came up with non-subjective limits for THC it would be the same.

I wouldn't say I'm whole heartedly against legalization but I am definitely not for it.

From the link I posted what Canada is doing.

Two nanograms

If you have two nanograms, but less than five, you would face a summary conviction and up to a $1,000 fine.
"With two nanograms, it's not a criminal offence, its a summary offence," Murie said. "You're not fingerprinted, so it would not show up on CPIC [Canadian Police Information Centre], it wouldn't show up on an employment check or a passport application."
In an analysis statement with the draft legislation, Ottawa said that this low offence is "is not directly linked to impairment, but is, rather, based on a precautionary or a crime prevention approach."
Five or more nanograms
If you have five nanograms or more, it gets more serious, just like if you're caught with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) over .08. It's a hybrid offence and, depending on the seriousness, you could face a fine and jail time. The maximum penalty for a criminal offence would be 10 years. This level of THC is "expected to cause some driving impairment," the statement said.

The bottom line is marijuana is exponentially safer than alcohol which is legal. Like I said earlier, produce me one individual in a rehab center for marijuana in the state of ND. I really doubt there is one. The underground economy is reaping the financial rewards while tax paying honest citizens are oblivious to the drug deals that are taking place all around them.

Id guess there are more than a few in addiction programs for MJ, court ordered of course... Addiction counselors are running scared at the thought of legalization!

Haha what are the recreational benefits of legal whisky?

I'll be tarred and feathered, and rode out of town on a rail.

No benefits to alcohol either. I spent (wasted) lots of time, dollars, (also nearly cost me a marriage and family) due to my alcohol use. I don't drink a drop now, and I for one, am far better off without it. But that's me. I obviously have an addictive trait in me.

Some would then say "why stop here, why not ban all drugs?". They'd say that caffeine and nicotine and sugar are all drugs too, (and of course they are) but show me someone who drank too much coffee and now is not able to safely drive. Or sugar, or cigarettes for that matter.

Regarding the "one individual in rehab for pot", I obviously can't name names, but when I checked myself into outpatient treatment years ago, there were plenty of people in there due to pot. Then again, addicts are not notoriously honest, so..

The bottom line is, alcohol and caffeine and nicotine and other drugs are not what we are talking about here. Marijuana is what we are discussing.

Also, kudos to us all, for having a real conversation about it, without devolving into a Three Stooges episode.

Like beer for me I am sure whiskey recreation benefits is it makes one feel good for the moment, makes some look better and helps one move forward when one needs to kick the crab out of someone.

Pot only effect is it just makes one feel loving with no desire to move beyond that feeling. db

But as a beer drinker that is only my Humble opinion. db

I get that some are solely speaking recreational but like I mentioned earlier , This is the quickest path with the least resistance to medical. I'll look tonight for the documentary I mentioned, It was a real eye opener .

When I was looking for it I found a lot of them , Just not the one I am looking for. This guy explains the concept behind it.

Show me an addict who has gone through rehab and in recovery who still smokes pot.
