So a few buddies and I (3 to 4 people)are thinking about taking a fishing trip into Minnesota. We have never done this before but we’re thinking about renting a cabin on a lake for about three or four nights. We’re mostly planning on doing some bass fishing along with some walleye and Muskie thrown in maybe. It really doesn’t matter to us if the cabin is on a big lake. Just a lake with good fishing with maybe a possibility of a bunch of other lakes in the area to trailer the boats to. Any recommendations would be excellent. Cabins don’t have to be anything extravagant either as we will most likely just use them for sleeping and cooking and to pinch a loaf when need be. Thinking the month of June . Thanks men!

If your going fall and your doing it this fall mainly for bass. I would look at smaller lakes. The wind blows just like it does in nodak on the bigger lakes. With that said - i woudnt even bother traveling that far into the state. You have the different ranges of lakes -- DL-ottertail, Leech lake/pk rapids. Every lake in that state has LM bass. I would pick a cabin or vbro somewhere that is still open and have at it. I dont have a specific lake.

Give the Leech Lake, Walker area, a look. Back when I was a youngster, the folks owned a cabin near Stony Point. We never had an issue fooling the eyes. I have been back in the Walker area numerous times. Altho I have never targeted Mushky's, I have heard many ppl target them on that lake. Plenty of smaller lakes in the area to target other species. There are many many many resorts to choose from for your lodging. I think Hiwatha Beach Resort still rents Houseboats if that is an option for you. Plus, if you ever have a rainy day, Reeds Sporting Goods is in downtown Walker to spend your life's savings on.
The little town is a typical tourist trap on weekends in the summer but lots to see and do.
Hit me up if you want any more info.

I did the houseboat thing on Lake Vermillion with 5 other guys this time of year...never again. With good weather could be fun, but four days of high winds and even snow locked us on a one acre island 20 miles from the home port...ropes breaking etc. we caught 7 walleyes in 5 days total...(and towed two fishing boats to fish with). If we had a cabin we couldve at least gone to a bar, restuarant or casino in the shitty weather...

Hands down, Leech lake. Fishes very similar to Devils Lake meaning you can catch them however you want and the size structure of the fish puts anything in Nodak to shame. If targeting Musky I thing Walker Bay is where it's at. A lot of ciscos in there, where the main lake seems to be more of a perch base.

I am completely biased. But after spending all of our free time for the last 21 of 23 years at the NW Angle it is an awesome place to fish. The beauty of the wilderness is awesome. I always compare it to deer hunting in the ND Badlands. Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, and Muskie. If your group consider it send me a PM and I will get you more info.
You have to set up to apps for travel, but if a 75 year old cantankerous ol coot can do it anyone can.
No DUIs on anyone record though.

Ottertail County, MN. Lots of different lakes and species and able to hide out of the wind on one of the lakes if needed. Good area food as well.

Ash river near Orr has cabins and access to Kabetogama and Namekan. Sure I spelt those wrong but as a kid I spent many summers fishing them. Always a blast for walleye. One time fishing off the dock on the ash river I caught my limit much to the dismay of the guys fishing out in the lakes. Also could go to I falls and stay at the Thunderbird Lodge and fish Rainy Lake.

I wouldn't spend money in the people's republic of Minnesota I would go to fort peck or the Great lakes charter probably cheaper and you can actually keep a limit

Hell Creek and Rock Creek on Peck have simple cabins. The bass fishing is excellent if you know what to look for. Rock creek bay in front of the cabins is sheltered from the wind and loaded with bass. If I were to bass fish MN, Id do Rainy River/Lake for smallmouth. Mill Lacs is also a big bass lake but walleye are apparently a protected endangered species there. For largemouth, Id pick the lake chains anywhere between Detroit Lakes and Alexandria. Many of those lakes are connected that smaller boats can get through. Those backwaters are loaded with largemouth. But I havent fished there since the 90s and MN has become way more crowded since.

Maybe check into this place. I talked to the owner at the Fargo Sportsman Show and think that I might look into their winter cabin rental. Private access lake with lots of other options in the area, big crappie that can reach 14" he said, big gills if you find them, good bass, big pike. Rental rates seemed fair to me especially in the winter and super nice guy to talk with. It is near Backus MN which is just south of Leech Lake

I can vouch for the Detroit lakes area as well, lake Sallie was my favorite especially fishing by the Dunton locks. The large mouth bass are actually soo used to people feeding them that the guys in the boat were releasing the same fish. The water being so clear you can see them laying on the bottom just out of the current of the locks. Then if you want mushky fishing mellisa or big DL has some bigens for you, I'm biased to this area since there is something like over 200 lakes in Becker County alone. Walleye fishing isn't that great and the ones you do catch are what the locals call cigars. Even your 15-16 inch keepers have no size to them especially early summer after they spawn and are laying in the reeds.
The other places would be great as well that have been mentioned
