I am heading out on my first tropical island vacation in a little under 3 weeks, hitting up Rose Hall Hilton in Montego Bay, im hoping to get a few of the guys im going with to go out on a fishing adventure with me and do all sorts of other neat stuff, just wondering if anyone has been to this resort or what kind of stuff their is to do at a somewhat reasonable price, and especially if anyone has done any fishing in montego bay, knows what charter to go through, do i need a reservation ahead of time etc, etc.
thanks

Don't really know about that area, but when I stayed at ocho rios area we never had a problem booking trips. Talk to the conseairs(SP) there and then will help you out.

If there was any good fishing spot in Jamaica it should be around Montego Bay…it is the busier and more dated of the tourist areas…I would not book anything in advance…ask at your resort or head into town and check out the marina…seas a little choppy on that side but the fishing might be good

I've only stayed in Ochoa Rios before. I seem to remember when I did my research that that side of the island didn't have much for sport fish. To much over fishing. I'm sure you could catch a bit reef fishing. Most resorts will have a boat contracted $$$$$. Look online and you should be able to find charters that are more reasonable and will pick you up. Usually when I want to book a charter I'll go walk around the marina in the evening a couple nights in advance. You can see who's catching and what thier catching.

so the charter that the resorts generally have are quite over priced you are saying? all these places i see online want reservations in advance, im sure they just want your money early i am assuming and there shouldnt be and issue with getting on a boat at some point in time out there?

Resort charter- Most $$$$ least chance of catching fish
Marina with pre-scouting (suggested by Ericb) – average $$ greatest chance of catching fish
Finding guy on beach to take you out - $ cheapest – average chance to catch fish – best chance to get drunk and high---greatest chance of death

Well I haven't been here before but looking at google maps I'm not finding a marina anywhere near our resort that I would even be able to go and check out. And 3 I'm gonna lie sounds like a hell of an adventure!

You’ll have to take a cab from the resort…at least they have the main roads re-done … but a Jamaican cab ride is an adventure in itself

ive heard that the cab rides are a 50/50 on making it there in one piece!

I love Jamaica been there twice…the people are friendly and extremely laid back…nobody’s in a hurry ‘mon … except when you put them behind the wheel of a vehicle…so lead foot driver + pedestrians that are not in a hurry= adventure ride that rivals most theme parks…

No lie about the driving. I stayed near Ocho Rio and took the transfer from the airport to hotel. It was a miniature bus. About half way there I had to stair at the floor of the bus and held on for dear life. I thought for sure we were going to be killed or kill someone on the side of the road. It was a true amusement park ride but your life was truly on the line. I will never forget going around blind corners at 60mph, clipping mirrors with other buses, being inches from cattle, goats and people. It was f***n insane.

When we were in Ocho I got one of those guys to take us fishing for an hour and then over to Dunn's river falls. Best $100 I spent the entire trip.

At least they stop half way and let you get more beer. I thought we were going to have to get out and push that thing up some of the hills.

They all want reservations but most sent going to be booked in advance every day you are there. The Sandals boat was $250 per person. I think the boat would hold 8 or ten and they would put parties together to make sure it was full. They brought in 2 Marlin the entire time we were their.

i think we will be doing just the anchor up deep sea and jig and catch lots of fish rather than just 1 or 2 trophy fish, im going for quantity not quality!

I fished out of Montego Bay, sickest ive ever been, huge ass waves. and don't get drunk the night before, I spent 3 of the 4 hours over the side of the boat puking. Just stay on the resort and get shitfaced, save yourself the agony of going out in those big waves and getting grossly sea sick. FML that sucked!!

My wife got seasick in the dominican. I stayed on deck and slammed el presidente's with jose and oscar while we managed to snag one northern pike of the ocean (cuda). I feel for you people that get sea sick. I've never experienced it. I've always had a blast in rough water.
