Has this ever been done before?
I've seen areas closed to vehicle access due to fire danger out west (Idaho/Montana), but never actually closing the lands. Although if someone was looking to discourage other hunters from coming out this would be a logical rumor to start. Not a particularly smart one, but it's logical

You left out his white sunglasses

They have closed the Badlands a number of times at the request of the ranchers. No record of bow hunters starting fires in the Badlands, but don't let reality stop them. *&^%** bowhunters.

Who do you think is calling the Game and Fish and complaining, motel owners no, restaurant owners no, the tooth fairy maybe? You know who complains gst. Do you really think you can hide that? I have heard them complain on programs on KFYR Bismarck. You just exposed your extreme bias.

So in other words you can;t provide a source......

Simply asking a question is "extreme bias"..........but making claims aimed at a group of people one can not back up that are technically not even close to accurate is apparently not.

I didn;t know the "Game and Fish" determined access to the "Badlands".

I am merely curious how and when the "Badlands" have been closed because "ranchers" simple called for it. Perhaps it has happened, if it has you should be able to share a source referencing it.

I mean apparently from your claim it has happened "a number of times" so examples should be plentiful. If you can not provide a simple source one might ask why you would make such a claim.

I am curious on Plainsman's claim on the closed Badlands as well. I've heard rumors of closing seasons, and if my memory is correct I remember once where no off road travel was allowed, but closed seasons???????? I know all the years I've hunted out there I never ran into having to cancel a hunt.

We hunted Turkey's near Marmarth one year and afternoons were closed to all hunting South of interstate. We shot our Turkey's and headed north for a couple days of archery deer. I like you woodpecker remember road closures. I remember closures South of interstate right here at Jamestown. I think the difference is she, and I am remembering a lot further back. My kids were in high school, and my oldest son that just passed away was 45, so that was a while back.

Nice story but that doesn;t really substantiate your claim. Perhaps your "extreme bias" simply got the better of your common sense.........

Even your story suggests that hunting was allowed outside afternoon hours when the fire danger might be highest.

No deer out west anyways. And the roads will be closed, and likely they wont allow hunting, so best bet is to stay away.

For the exact same reason that the best underwear to wear on the boat, is in fact, no underwear at all.

Can you provide a source to verify this claim?

Perhaps in the coffee thread?

I don't know. I was in wibaux for a wedding last weekend and a they were talking the whole state of MT might not allow hunting this year at all if things persist.

I don't bow hunt so no worries there. My wife works for the national park service. it's being kicked around at the federal level.

As far as ND hunting seasons, ND Century Code describes in 20.1-08-02.4: That due to climatic conditions a hunting season may create a fire hazard, the governor may, by order, close or postpone, and reopen, any hunting season in areas where these conditions exist, upon reasonable notice through the media. The emergency closing or postponement and reopening can be accomplished without complying with section 20.1-08-05.
