That’s my point I’ve been shamed for 21-24 inch fish and would let those 25 inch go. But in a tourney those 25 inch plus are cleaned and cheeks down the grinder.

Exactly why most tourneys should go to CCR. A good amount of tourneys have already migrated that way.

In ND you have to clean them I believe at tourneys to be legal. It’s because fish were floating belly up after they were weighed and released. I had a slip at the casino for a few years... Well the casino had a chute to let the fish down into the bay after weighing. One day I see Russ, guy with boats in slips, on his jet ski netting dead pigs. He got in trouble from warden for that. All he did was retrieve dead fish that were released . It wasn’t long after tourneys became kill only. Even smallmouths tourneys are kill which is really something.

This not correct. It is only a certain time frame that (will have to search up the dates) the NDGFD will not issue a catch and release permit during the warm water timeframe. Spring and Fall tournaments can be catch and release. Also immediate CPR release tournaments (AIM) there is no time frame on.

EnSlo...Looks like the G&F deletes a tournament date after it has passed for that year and doesn’t specify if the tournament permits that’s granted is for a kill or not. I’d start getting applications for upcoming tourneys and possibly those will let you know if they are kill or catch and release. Possibly your ol’ buddy Steinwand is available to ask when the cut off date for catch and release tournaments are...you still got his #?

Nope all dead seas. In fact the last weigh-in I went to was just 250 empty bags and they were weighing how much ice was left in the coolers. The yeti crowd did very well

I can tell you the ones I know.

All AIM tourneys no matter the month held are immediate CRR.
The Van Hook Classic is early June, and is CRR via weigh boats.
I know MWC will release fish if permitted to do so, but do it after the weigh in

The Williston Rural Fire Association in May is a release tournament, all AIM events and the Van Hook Classic are the big ones I can think of. I believe the NWT also releases fish but that might just be time of year dependent.

The 10% that goes to the game and fish can be allocated for a project like boat landing repair or fish cleaning station how is this bad? We all use these resources. Why should the big tournaments get off for less by having a $5000 cap. Question what are they doing to stop the spread of zebra mussels and other invasive species? Are they checking boats before they enter our waters? Are they steam cleaning boats? I see they are complaining on other sites and wanting us to contact our Legislators and Game and Fish. I have been involved with the running of many tournaments and we always paid the 10% because we earmarked for pet projects to help build up our lakes.

That’s nice as I’m sure they are milking you for information. I learned the old fashioned way in highschool when the pros wanted to take the kids out for a day of fishing.

This is so synonymous with the news, politics and social media these days. Let’s bring up the little tourneys that are catch and release and forego the answers to the how many tourneys clean big fish. I actually don’t really care about the fish being cleaned but when you watch the same guys who say it’s cool to clean them they will cut their lines to avoid being seen reeling one in during pre fishing. And if they see those “tourney” fish at the cleaning table you will be shamed and questioned.

nice thing about big pike it only takes a couple 20 pounders in the spring for a great fish fry
