For the price i think some of the eskimos are pretty good. I think you could find the eskimo Mako 43cc for around $300. My buddy has one it cuts good and seems to always start and run. It definitely has a vibration compared to my Honda but its also half the price. Eskimo has a 5 year warranty now to i think.

I would suggest looking at the eskimos. know of a few people that have one and never really any complaints about them that I can recall. Price isn't bad either

Buy an old used model 30. A white one. And save your money the next few years for an electric set up.

This. Should be able to get one for under $200. Sold mine earlier this winter for $150. Was at least 20 yrs old. Nothing wrong with it. Started like a charm every time but never used the last 3 yrs as I upgraded to k drill with Milwaukee. Use the money you save by buying an old model 30 jiffy and buy other, can't live with out, stuff and gear. Get ready for your new addiction though.... as there now will always be something new and improved that you will no longer be able to live with out. Just sayin.

Depends on your price range but I found my Eskimo HC-40 10" propane auger on bisman for $350. The guy only had it a couple months and didn't like the way it redrilled holes in ice castle so he wanted an ion.

You can find some good deals on there or even on here!

I have an 8" Eskimo Mako that has worked good for me the last 3 years with no problems. I replaced the chinese spark plug with a champion and I've gotten it dialed in to where I can get it to start first pull every time no matter what the temperature. I do wish it was a little lighter since I like to cut a lot of holes but it cuts fairly fast and I can't complain for what I paid for it. I've seen them on sale as low as $250 (Runnings) if you are lucky but L&M Fleet sells the 8" for $290 if you can find somewhere to price match.

I'm actually impressed with the eskimos. Friend of mine has one and even after riding in the box of the pickup, it fired off on the first pull and drilled pretty quickly. They're just so friggen heavy.

Do this. I have one that's probably 30 yrs old. Got it from my FIL. Starts and runs every time. They are pretty much bullet proof.

Juanr you can't start giving people advice about putting your worm in someone else hole. I mean you could get shot for that. Especially if you are from sconi :shame:

I like my jiffy to a point, the issue I have with jiffy is you can't use a different auger other than another jiffy because they decided to build their auger to turn counter clockwise which makes it impossible to use a different auger.
If I was to buy a bulletproof auger would be a clock wise tecumseh strikemaster 3000 with either a 224 bit, nils, mora, fin bore or a k drill mounted to it. That would be a beast of a set up.

Or this power head set up

Going on season 5 with my Eskimo z71 10". Been incredibly happy with it. Starts religiously and drills nice. As DM said, it is heavy though. I would buy another Eskimo in a heartbeat but would maybe go down to an 8".
