I have fished out of the new town marina many times, if I was coming from minot, I would suggest fishing that area. Been a few years but we always seemed to do well at bear den, sanish, hunts along, lots of nice places to fish right in there.

Thanks Allen...I've got a buddy who has fished the Parshall Bay area quite a bit...may give that a shot with him.

When I lived in Minot I had a coworker that spent a lot of time at Deepwater Creek. It seemed like he was usually doing pretty well, so that's another option. I've fished the east end for most of my life and haven't spent much time out that way, but I've liked my limited time in Van Hook.

Maui does indeed do prescription, following Guys link, I was able to find that Eyes of Parkway in Bismarck is a Maui dealer for prescription eyewear.

Follow the crowds until you feel comfortable. There are a ton of spots no one fishes that are better, but the crowds will get you on fish.

Had a pair of Maui Jims prescription glasses. Best I have ever had. Lost them two years ago. Really miss them but they were expensive. Looking for a lower cost alternative. Any suggestions?

Ordered my Maui Jim prescriptions last week and they are already in.
Can't wait to try them out. They were darned expensive but old peepers need all the help they can get

I've never "boat" fished on the big lake. I owned a smaller bass boat...stuck to Lake Darling and Audubon. Recently I bought a deep V, will be heading out on Sakakawea this season. Just looking for any advice regarding easiest access ramps/boat traffic/bays to get familiar with Sakakawea. I ice fished Douglas Bay in January...had some success. Thanks for the inputs!

Stop by and visit. 40yrs on the big one.

Follow the fish or avoid the wind. West Sak will start up first and move along the lake in most general context. But there are always people catching fish somewhere. To avoid the wind very few places can offer that such as the Casino to Skunk Bay 27 miles of lake. Most scenic as well. Fishing pretty good and ability to avoid boats. Ramps not that great because west Enders mostly get forgotten about. Casino is okay. Marina okay. Van Hook okay.

Deepwater is a cool place to fish but on big wind days and fish not going in the bay you will get a suprise turning the corner and wanting to do main lake.

Mid section, I don't fish a lot except in DWC. Seems a bit more on the learned side versus doing Van Hook where it's fish factory.

Indian Hills can be good. Crackers delight at times.

Douglas is a mini Van hook. Ramps okay. But she be busy these days.

East End I think will be pretty good this year. It gets tougher fishing sometimes because water very clear and up shallow you get weed issues. But lots of islands to mess around on. I starting to take a liking to East End because it does offer challenge.

Sak is a dream. Big, diverse and places to hide from winds especially west middle.

Grab a Humminbird and you'll be fine. If water drops to 1830 ish grab a Navionics chip.

If you are on a budget like me, I bought the navionics app for my galaxy last year and have been pleased.

Buy a pack of bottom bouncers, spinners and Lindy rigs and work structure. Take multiple kinds of bait, you never know what theyll want. And zigzag depths until you find them. Oh and keep an eye on the weather, especially in the afternoon. Don't be afraid to put some miles on and explore, there's allot of water to that's for sure!

10 bucks and yes. It really helped narrow down where I went searching and was acurate enough for me. I like that you can change the lake level versus what the app has for the datum level. So if they are using 1830 and the lake is 1840 you can add the 10 feet and your contour lines change. Gps seemed pretty accurate as far as where it showed me on the chart and what my sonar was giving me.
