Open water?

Ok, so this isn't necessarily for fishing, but I am curious about the amount of open water people are seeing across the state. In particular, I am looking for open water on prairie potholes, rivers, etc where the open spots are large enough for a helicopter to grab a drink of water for fighting wildfires.

Went to fargo the other day and medina/ crystal springs lakes area you could see water around the edges but still looked frozen. I was also in dickinson and patterson lake was open.

While in Williston for the sport show last weekend, I heard the river had opened up through town. A good feeling considering we drove through the Ray and Tioga areas and got to see the remnants of last Octobers firey day. Yesterday's little rain shower and now todays wind really doesn't give a guy a great sense of hope for the spring season, or longer, that's for sure.

Yep, it's awfully dry out in the country for most of the state considering the time of year. There have been days with a number of fire starts, but thus far they have been able to control them.

I went fishing this afternoon and drove around finger drifts and a skim of water on top of 28'' of ice. There was maybe 1 or 2 inches of open water between shore and the ice. What a difference in climate just a few miles out of the hills.

There was a Suburban pulling a trailer on the ice on Ft Totten bay on Devils Lake this morning.

Jeezes I would think that ice has to be getting honey combed by now.

Apparently no runoff coming into the lake either, otherwise would be water all around the perimeter also. They have had colder temps with the snow up that way.

Not really. It's still getting cold at nite. As long as the shorelines aren't deteriorating massively during massive sun during the day, ice is good. Would I take a house out? no. But walking and wheelers have been ok.

We hit the “always open” water, this afternoon. Caught a few.

On the way down, didn’t see any shoreline open at Sak or Audubon.

Not really. It's still getting cold at nite. As long as the shorelines aren't deteriorating massively during massive sun during the day, ice is good. Would I take a house out? no. But walking and wheelers have been ok.

Same up here , I drove around Metigoshe this afternoon and saw vehicles out there. I 'll measure my auger and see how long it is because 28'' doesn't sound right . Good solid ice and I barely had enough auger without an extension. It's going to start getting cold at night again and we will be in good shape.
