Had to take the pics of the tail from the underside which is why it looks so dark. I wasn't inclined to ruffle the saddle to find the base of the tail and with the hide being frozen, the tail feathers stuck up at an angle. Haven't a clue how much of the tail feather is stuck in the meat though.

Nice hooks Duck. I like getting them smart old birds every now and then.

Got this one Sunday. From the butt to the tip it's 24", but like KDM I'm not sure how they measure them either.

What do you guys use to drop them bad boys? Mid to late season it is Prairie Storm for me. No cripples or hitting the ground running. Like a tshirt of mine says. "Flight Cancelled!"

Same for me always, Winchester 2 3/4' shell with 6 shot in the first barrel and 4 shot in the 2nd barrel. Many times you get closer shots late season, so no need to putting in turkey loads or anything crazy like that. Shoot them in the head and they die.

2 3/4 #4 lead on private ground. On public land, 3 in #2 steel as they tend to flush a bit wilder.

Haven't a clue how much of the tail feather is stuck in the meat though.

Just pull the tail feathers from a bird you don't care about, measure the part that was in the meat, and add that length to your long one. I would think that would get you very close to the true length.

nice feathers, biggest so far is 23" i've been using federal ultramag 2 3/4 for years.
