The few that I have entered in long tail contests have always been tip to tip.

I remember when a 21 or 22 was going to win a guy a shotgun.

I used to get the shit kicked out of me until I read this: Then forgot and was abused again:

th

No more. I still may rely on "laser" choking but increase shot size to get more punch. I drive folks crazy with calmness, getting correct position, aiming and poor shotgunning. I used to hunt with an excitable fellow with great dogs. Twice during late season with this guy, I had birds flush at point blank range: "SHOOOOT!" ; scared the hell out of me. he had an open choked O/U and a different perspective. I didn't want to turn the birds into pink mist and actually (for real) turned to him and said "WTF" then killed both birds with hellfire #4 Federals at 1500 fps.

--Even after I read the above book in my youth; I didn't retain and have poor hearing in my left ear. What do I need to say now?...don't over choke, don't over blast: Hellfire shells ain't no more powerful at 40 yds than trap loads. Adjust shot size and choke.

Plug your offside ear when hunting.

My daughter shot one with a 27" tail feather opening weekend. Very impressive!

That is a long tail feather early in the season. That would have been a 30" tail feather by the end of season.

Don't keep fish above 14in, don't shoot bucks below 150 and judicially judge tail before you shoot.

Got and email back from Anthony Hauck who's the director of public relations for Pheasants Forever in MN and they measure from tip to tip as well. So there you have it. Tip to Tip from a pulled tail feather is apparently the most "Official" way to go. Enjoy Fellas and have a great Thanksgiving!!!!

I shot a 36" once when I was 16. But the house burned down and it was destroyed. Should have listened to mom and kept it in the shed.
