Based on recent reports from March 2026, Tadan Defoe of Watford City, North Dakota, had the majority of charges dismissed in a poaching case, while still facing charges in other matters.
Poaching Case Charges (March 2026)
Dismissed/No Probable Cause: In a case involving the alleged poaching of 3 bull elk, 1 moose, and 34 deer, a judge found no probable cause for counts 1-2 and 5-15 of the initial 15 Class A misdemeanor charges.
Active Charges: As of late March 2026, Defoe still faced at least two Class A misdemeanor charges in this matter.

I assume the “no probable cause “ is because the police and / or Warden fucked up, either by mistake, ignorance, or intentionally and were operating outside the law and obtained the evidence illegally. I also assume that evidence can never be used against him in potential future cases.

It is sad to say but playing in the gray area and violating someone's constitutional rights is a daily occurrence with LEO's today.

No disagreement. The very fine line is important. One side is law and order, the other is government overreach and abuse. It sucks to see someone who is beyond a reasonable doubt guilty, get off. In a state with once and a lifetime rules to have 4 of those in possession, and 34 deer. Ya just pisses a guy off. Hopefully they lock him up on the other charges. My expectation is he will be out in a couple years and back to his old ways. Can we buy him a bus ticket to somewhere else?

People like this are a drain on society. Yeah maybe death would be too harsh but most of these creeps never learn and just keep being dirt balls their whole lives. I'd rather just reuse rope instead of supporting some dickhead in a prison who's more then likely going to come out even worse someday.
