I know there are some threads on here about freezing fish and reccomendations for a taxidermist, having issues connecting so just gonna ask again. Son has a 22lb 45"ish northern and am looking for advice on freezing and whom to take it to. Thanks guys!

Wrap in a wet towel making sure the fins are flat against the body and the tail is protected and lay flat on something and freeze. It will keep almost forever. This is the recommendation from Wayne Zespy in Lakota who does amazing fish taxidermy. Congratulations to your son on a great fish. Pics would be cool!!!!

Probably too late but recommended by Silseth to sprinkle some borax on fish and into gills. Captures color well and keeps it from fading due to moisture saturation and just being dead in general.

Yes on freezing with wet towel.

Protecting the fins is the biggest concern.

I wrapped in a towe withl fins flat and tried to compress the tail a bit. Could not freeze flat since the freezer is an upright.

What is your contact information MSA. Looking at mounting a walleye possibly.

I PMed you my number. I don't have much going on right now, so I could have a walleye finished for you in less than a month

Ha ha ha. I appreciate the update - and I accepted the potentialrisks of less than perfection when I submitted it to you. Have fun with it - no worries.

IN FACT... If you don't like how it turns out you could get crazy with it. Like a custom car/motorcycle. Bright gawdy fluorescent with clashing colors on fins, etc.

wags usually has spare psychedelics if you need inspiration
