The key here seems to be that Property tax can only be abolished in North Dakota if it benefits farmers, corporations, and property management companies renting apartments based out of state and absentee landowners who are cashing rent checks in Arizona and not contributing to the cost of maintaining access to the property for their renter. No way the legislature will discuss the idea of a break for just primary resident owners. Recently In this thread the tax relief bill that's 'not going' to get passed was mentioned because it doesn't include ag(they already dont pay tax on their million-dollar homesteads) and commercial property. I like the way Gov. Armstrong commented on it. Guess what, it was never about helping the the average guy. The average guy will be the one who will see a increase in the future in his income and sales tax when the ever-increasing costs can't keep up with this "magic money" that the state has. I'm pretty sure the usuals commenting on this thread have one foot in a nursing home and don't give a shit about what happens. ten years from now they will be too busy pretending to be senile while they're jacking off when the CNA comes in their room. Some of us and our children have decades to deal with how we pay for the tax breaks we gave to walmart, menards, haliburton, hotels, apartments, etc. If you cant understand this, ask the twenty-year-old CNA to explain this to you, with your pants up and zippered. I don't remember all of the details, but one of the most vocal of you idiots bitched recently and years ago about oil money going to fargo and not paying for a school in dickinson... so, yeah lets have bismarck figure it out. If the bill would have been for primary residence only it would have more than easily passed. The rest of us not in our golden years seen through that bill for what it was. The all hahas all the time is about the only thing worth lookIng at on the site anymore, and they're mostly just taken from snipershide.

I don’t think you’ll get many to disagree with you. Most of us who were screaming to pass this measure understand the implications. The reason I personally was hellbent on it is because I knew exactly what would happen and it is happening if it didn’t get passed. One way or another property tax relief was going to the legislature… so regardless the “state” is going to fuck it up one way or another…. without the measure being passed now they are pretty fucking bold and they continue to sit on their hands and play politics….the main reason we wanted the measure passed is to FORCE them to deal with it on terms greater than 1250…. They hacked the medical marijuana measure to shit what makes you think they wouldn’t have completely re-arranged the property tax measure? And for the record I don’t think the measure was the best either but that’s how bad this situation is getting and going to get if we do nothing.

I think there was a poll on here that was for legalizing pot after they butchered the medical bill the people voted for and I think last time that went down by like 65%. I remember polls back in 2016 that said Hillary was a shoe in for the presidency. We know how that turned out. You can say the property tax bill went down because it was poorly written all you want, I believe we hear the same scare tactics every time a bill comes along the people are for and those in charge aren’t work every time

OK I'll say it again. It would have passed if it was for primary residence only. Before the vote, I sat with a group of 40 year olds who were talking about how stupid it was to include corporations and businesses they were voting against it. These guys aren't homeless bums .

Yeah you’re probably right. I’m sure if the two words primary residence were in the bill we never would have heard the phrases keep it local or had people saying all police, and fire departments would close if it passes. Or that every small town would have to go to Bismarck on their hands and knees begging for the funds to run their towns. I also bet we wouldn’t hear I can’t vote for that because it doesn’t say where the funds are going to come from.

People are scared of a poorly written measure that didn't address the issue with where is the money coming from, if property taxes are abolished.

North Dakota isn't like the politicians of Washington that voted on the obozo care act, piggy Pelosi said you needed to vote on it then read it.

The medical marijuana act of 2016 was so well written it didn't need to be gutted by beurocrats from Bismarck but of course we know how that went.

Again tax relief on property taxes still starts at the local level, if people want change it starts at the first rung of the ladder.

Agree its to bad people dont know who they are voting for. You look at burleigh county commision..those guys are now trying to ax the auditor position from being voted on by the PEOPLE to being appointed by the commision...becuase they know better then the people and want to make sure a qualified person is in place. I read someplace there is a petition to recall bitner...hope he is the one axed and they should recall anyone suporting it!

Bitner's comments prove what the petition claims. calling the voters not normal and stating he doesn't have to prove anything

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Amid the controversy of Burleigh County Auditor and Treasurer Mark Splonskowski, Commission Chair Brian Bitner is now named in a petition to be removed from the Burleigh County Commission.

The petition, which we acquired from the Secretary of State’s office, says that Bitner demonstrates “abuses of power” and displays “contempt for the voters of Burleigh County.”

Bitner is in disbelief over these allegations and cannot understand how a normal person could reach this conclusion.

“I’m the least concerned with power of anyone I know. I’ve been a leader my whole life. I don’t have to prove anything with abusing power. That’s ridiculous,” said Bitner.

Exactly why he should be removed. You would think after seeing his election results and BARELY being re-elected by uninformed voters he would have done some self reflection and maybe changed....guess not.

Anybody know where you can sign the petition?
