That's why I want someone to show me the ropes the first time. My firearms are members of my family, I couldn't stand doing them harm.

ive used jb weld and hornady one shot case lube as a release with pretty good success. I wouldn't bother bedding a rifle if it already shoots good.

I just make sure the dollar bill trick works with all my rifles and they all will out shoot the guy pulling the trigger every day of the week

That works unless the rifle is full length bedded.

I can't understand why full length bedding would ever be needed? seems counter productive. some rifles are strange animals tho

Think of a barrel like a tuning fork. The full length bedding dulls the vibration of the barrel. It also helps when the barrel heats up.

So made the decision. Ended up with the Remington 700 5R Gen 2 in 308 w/ threaded barrel. The varminter 3.0 process has been started and hopefully doesn't take 10 months. Vortex Viper 6.5x20-44 optic on top and of course a Harris bipod. Can't wait to get this baby to the range and get the can set up on it!!

The 5r's are definitely shooters, I don't think you will be disappointed. Not sure if they still come with the hs precision stock or not but the large palm swell is slightly uncomfortable for me. That is the only problem I have with the 5r. It didn't bother me until I started shooting a McMillan htg stock on a couple of my rifles. Also I've added some triad tactical stock packs to my most used rifles and seemed to help the fit of the hs precision and mcmillans, once again never noticed until I tried something different and they all shot great before. Just something that I've found to help be more comfortable and the pouches have a pocket that I keep range cards and ear plugs in.

I load the classic 175 SMK's on top of 4064 with good results but I think it's tough to not get 175 SMK's or AMAX's to not shoot well out of a 308.

I'm not a reloader so for now it will be factory loads. I will have to get into reloading at some point.

I bedded the action and floated mine first to free the whip and harmonics. It was all I had to do, full length was next step.

Freedom is my 1st pitch. Snatch 'em up tight is the 2nd.

Not necessarily, Mr. Forbes clinches 'em tight from the get-go.

I've never heard of him. Is this like Teve Torbes from SNL a while back? Is this for a synthetic stock-like object or walnut?

I just had a brain flash like the Stones and Ace. You don't seem to hear much about them now. Impressive Mr. Hosager.

Haha! I win! Now we need to have a "come to Jesus" talk with uncle Horsager about your choice of optics. You should let me find you a scope. I have a penchant for finding optics way below the lowest retail price.

Years ago I had a supervisor named Steve. I always referred to him as Teve Torbes and it drove him nuts. Thank you for the member berries.

Hors just made me look foolish. It was a reference to UltaLight Arms from the Hills. Crap. Glad you liked Teve.

What makes them way better than timney?

The timney is thicker than the factory trigger group causing the bolt release to stick unless you grind clearance in your stock.

The adjustment of the Trigger X is way simpler, one Allen head that can be reached without disassembling the rifle. The Timney has two Allen heads for creep and pull. More difficult to adjust I think.

The sear stays together as the Trigger X is one piece, so it's easier to pin in the action VS the factory or Timney triggers.

Trigger X is also cheaper out of the gate.

I own several Timney, Jewel for my R700 herd and KIDD Trigger groups for my 10-22 stuff. When I got my hands on the Trigger X I was impressed with packaging, fit and finish, super easy adjustment, razor sharp no creep break, and will be ordering more.

Hope that helps KurtR

Find me a tangent theta way below retail I might have an early Christmas. Or even a vortex AMG in stock and below retail.
