how many deposit checks cashed? maybe a call to our a.g. would get him talking again.

sounds like grounds for a cease and desist order until deposits are paid back or work completed

Add one more to the list. Hybrid mallard/pintail, but mine's only been there for 2.5 years...that's ok, right?

Boy that's not good. Can that be considered wanton waste?

I've always thought that law needs a new name. Who would waste delicious, cream cheese wantons.

That sucks, make sure to let him know how you feel on his facebook page and anywhere else where you can rate his business.

Are you F'N kidding me?? Spoiled??? I would think that's grounds for some sort of compensation beyond just getting a deposit back. I mean, it spoiled in his damn care because he took too freaking long.

"OH whoops, sorry, guess I can't mount your bird now."

I'd be freaking pissed if I sent him a trophy of a lifetime and then after waiting around for damn near 5 years was told it was spoiled and unmountable.

Hold on...let me find my valve stem removal tools...

If this was my stuff, 1. I wouldn't wait 5 years to GO KNOCK on HIS DOOR, and 2. If he told me my stuff was spoiled I wouldn't wait for him to send the deposit back, I would GO KNOCK on HIS DOOR!! ::boxing::

yeah im an not happy that's for sure, and like I said my lil bro has talked with the attorney in our area. biggest issue is coming up with a "price of fair compensation" because the mount was to cost $550-600 but a true rare bird like that is worth so much more.

he initially said it was a bit "pin feathery" which may have been true it was shot mid sept. last wknd of early season. however it wasn't spoiled... and if so why wait 4 years to tell me?
im a little :mad: right now

best of luck to the rest of ya, if this happens to more of you I think we as a group of us need to get this out there

oh an further more I asked where the bird is now and he wont tell me just says " its not salvageable" I said where is it, and why didn't I get a chance to pick it up?

I think is was Wyoming that passed a law that taxidermist had to have your mounts back in one year. Sounds like ND needs some type of regulations on these guys.

Demand your bird back, even if its garbage, get it back. If he cant produce a bird, I would call bull shit, as he did something else with it. Sounds like this guy is a douche, and shouldn't be in business.

Which is too bad...this guy used to have a good reputation for being the one of the best in the region on waterfowl. But not when you treat your customers like this. I would be beyond pissed if i were you guys.

I feel your pain... I had a big red river walleye get spoiled once at a taxidermist because the freezer quit working. I still do business with the guy but it sucks nonetheless.

this is the most communication i have had with rick in a year or more. maybe i should have been more persistent to begin with.

he admits to throwing the bird away, and not wanting to do a 'poor" mount. which is fine but the questions i keep wanting to know is why did it take so long to let us know this, why not call me ASAP and tell me that when he discovered it. either way not sure what course of action were taking but hope the rest of you have better luck, and buyer be ware of rick in the future.

anyhow says he will get my check out in the next week

........or so he says

I would be way more understanding if the freezer went out and the birds were lost. Things happen, I will be mad if he says that now 2.5 years later than they should have been done by. I usually use Birdman studios and should have stayed there but wanted to keep business somewhat local, and have had Birdman tell me that birds were to full of pin feathers to get a good quality mount but still asked me right away if I wanted to proceed or if he should trash the bird. I feel like Rick should have done that, just tossing a bird without contact is not right and contact should have been made right away.

I hesitated to start this on a public forum for fears of him doing a poor job on my birds because of it or me just not getting them back at all but at 4.5 years no recent contact I figured others should atleast be aware of the situation. Also if you have recently as in 2 years or so taken a bird there you can plan on 4+ years to get it back with all the birds ahead of you.

You think a guy with the (Former) solid reputation as a taxidermist would just quit his day job and focus on his craft full time. I mean, he does really great work from what I've seen and I know he rakes in ribbons left and right. Or, at the very least, limit how many he takes so that he can actually get mounts done within a year or two.

Going 4-5 years with no apparently haste to get the job done, and then dragging his heels when it comes to responding to customer questions, just reeks of laziness and dishonesty. I'd considered dropping off a couple black ducks sitting in my freezer to Roughrider, but no way in hell would I go there now.

OMG... horror story!

So glad my mount made it back intact. Andrew Faul took a while, but he came through big time. One heck of a neat guy too.

I've known Andrew for alot of years. You're right on with him. I wanted him to do a fish last year, but I think he only does deer. He may take a while, but you will get a great product, and hes a great guy as well.
