I remember back in the late 80s thru the 90s they couldn't even sell fireworks becuase it was too dry out. We didnt have big venues like they do now, we bough bottle rockets, firecrackers, jumping jacks, roman candles, sparklers, some other odds and ends. Nothing big though, the city would out on a big show that was good enough for us. Played a lot of stupid games like lightning the bottle rockets off and point them at other kids. See how long you could hold a firecracker in your hand before it would go off. No such thing as a pod challenge for us. I even remember when i was a kid this other kid had some old m80s that his dad had saved before they were outlawed by the atf. But nothing compared to making your own pipebombs though, oh those were the days when adult supervision was only a recommendation. Its nice to live out in the country
Same childhood here lunk only holding the cracker contest we used smaller crackers called "lady fingers" still hurt iffin ya didn't pay attention, being from mn we couldn't legally have or purchase any fireworks that went Boom we went to sodak for the good stuff however never found cherry bombs, silver salutes noise makers made our own, today not much interest any more but my young redneck neighbor makes up some doozies,1/2 stick equivalent to dynamite bigtime boom, he laid one stick on a pocket gopher mound ( afternoon bender) 1' hole 🕳 no more Mr gohper... right outof caddy shack.

I live in the country, and I guarantee you. On Saturday morning when I go to town. I will be picking up left over fireworks the people blow off and don't clean up there mess. It happens every year, why should this one be any different.

The ditches are absolutely lined with cardboard tubes, plastic fins, paper wads, and all sorts of junk, one of my least favorite parts about the 4th is picking trash out of my yard for 3 months. People are too comfortable littering.

As a kid we had bottle rocket wars, blew up grasshoppers with blackcats, as me and my friends got older it turned into roman candle wars cruising main at night. Oh and sparkler bombs, first time I seen one of those I thought the guy was full of shit, till he lit it. But I'd never make another one, I've seen pics online of a kid with the wires sticking in his eye after lighting one.
Now days I think fireworks are a waste of money.

IMO a big part of the annoyance is the differences in types of fireworks some of you pointed out. Im all for kids being kids and some of the shit we did with fireworks Im suprised we have all our digits…. Roman candles, blackcats, bottle rockets and of course Nigerian chasers. They all made a pop, whilste or snap. Some of the stuff now rattles your house and gives off some serious percussion. The “big boomers” I don’t remember this intensity and loudness anywhere when I was a kid. Youd get a few snaps and pops and whistles during the week and the big shows were on or very near the 4th. Then everyone went back to life the next day….. you all can keep your “fuck yea freedom” attitudes. I’d prefer we went back to the 90s when American wasn’t quite so fucked up and people had some decency.

Fuck that. You’re either a proponent of freedom or not, decide and quit toeing the line or cut your dick off. Quit pretending to be strong 80% of the time.

Freedom comes with responsibility to your fellow Americans and their pursuit of freedom and happiness…..and Theres zero line towing from me on any issue. I stand in what I believe and I don’t care who it is on the other side of an issue. Love me, hate me. Dont fucking care 🤷🏼 and you sure are talking about weiners and gay stuff a lot tonight…. That freedom sauce got you feeling a little frisky? 🤣

And recklessness believing in the greater good. Paint 1776 in this argument and take your stand.
Where does freedom start and stop? Is it what you believe? Or what I believe? What if ones freedom hinders the freedom of another? Where are lines drawn. You tell me…. Unless you and da boys are getting the diddy juice ready for the slip and slide….
