Dad used to live trap them with a can of tuna. We once caught a beautiful black cat that was wild and I worked with it to tame it in our garage for a while. I was the only one it would walk up to. Fed it every day on the back porch. It was gone for a few months and then showed back up again. Eventually Blacky disappeared. Not sure what happened.

I am not much of a cat person, but unless it looks downright scraggly I won't dispatch them.

When we bought our first house we were doing some updating in and out. Had the wood chips around the house for landscaping. Caused those carpenter ants to live all around so pulled out the chips. While waiting for our new rocks to arrive the neighborhood cats (some feral some not) liked to use my dirt for a litter box. I put a live trap out with a can of tuna in it. I caught 13 in a week and a half. I took all out to country. The ones I thought were rather nice I let go near a farm driveway and hoped they'd get along. The ones that were aggressive towards me I gave a dirt nap. The problem is, is that people let their cats roam at night. Not suppose to do that. They mate and have kittens in someones old shed. The'll grow up wildish. Can't have those around.

Don't anyone eat pussy anymore , Geez
Cover and soak cat roast in salt water for 24 hours Drain water and then cover and soak in beer for 6 hours. Drain and place in crock pot with your cans of soup. Add a clove of garlic, and a cube of beef bouillon. If you start to slow cook your cat in the morning with your George Foreman Cooker (or it's ilk), you'll have finely cooked feline in time for supper.

Not bagging on you BigV in any way shape or form. I mean that sincerely and I have no problem with you personally. I just wanted to illustrate what most folks do when they live trap cats, or any other animal in an urban setting for that matter, and why I have a deep antagonistic view of feral cats. Think about it folks.......I LIVE IN THE COUNTRY and these kind hearted people who think they are doing a good thing have NOW made my life much more difficult by dumping a crap ton of cats and other animals on me and then get mad when I take exception to them. These folks do the same thing with stray dogs, raccoons, skunks, and any number of other VERMIN!!! They catch them, take them to the country and release them. WHAT THE HELL MAKES YOU THINK I WANT THESE ANIMALS AROUND MY HOME ANY MORE THAN YOU WANT THEM AROUND YOURS???? I have chickens which free range around my property and I don't have any cats of my own. It is a constant battle to keep these former house cats and other predators from seeing my livestock as an easy meal. The animals breed like all get out and I don't feel it is MY RESPONSIBILITY to care for these cats/dogs and other predators. For those reading this, PLEASE consider your actions BEFORE releasing any animals and STOP making "The Country" your dumping ground for unwanted animals because you don't want to see them killed by the local animal shelter or animal control officer. If you just can't bear the thought of doing what you should do, then please take a moment before judging me on what I think I should do. Thank You!!! Again BigV, not bagging on you at all.

Kidding aside, unless you live in the country and have mice issues, your pet cat should stay in the house, or on a leash. Those of you who don't agree, are actually breaking the law. I certainly am not going to DO anything about it, but the law is the law. Drive over the speed limit long enough, and you will get fined. You may not agree, but it is the law.

I have a cat that I am perfectly ambivalent about. I'd be fine if he tipped over tomorrow, but out of respect for my neighbors, and I guess at a somewhat lesser level, the local bird population, I keep him in the house. My kids think he's neat.

KDM, I sympathize with you 100%. I have family who live just outside of Wilton, and they don't want a bunch of undesirable cats either.

My rant is about people who think "oh, puddy tat just needs to go outside and play at night".

Well, puddy tat is out there killing birds, crapping in people's yards, making more puddy tats, and maybe even causing an inexperienced driver to wreck a car, while avoiding mister kitty.

If your comment is not "bagging" me I don't know what is. I call that bagging. But..i don't care. Its a cat. I guess most farmers I know don't have much to do with cats. They are a part of the farm. Majority are not spayed/neutered or even given appropriate vaccinations. They are simply just there. Maybe fed food. When I did that I just hoped they would blend in with other cats on farm. Some may have, some probably never even made to the yard. My friends and family live on farms and they have them come and go all the time. Don't think they get to worked up about it. So i never have either. But, I do understand your thoughts.

If it is your property and they are causing problems you have every right to rectify the situation but it is not ok for the average Joe to drive the country side and shoot a cat just because it is 400 yards from a building.

Put a tarp or blanket over the cage often times you can call the local police to find out where to bring the cats.
