I'm in the market for a new shovel and am undecided whether to stick with wooden or try a polymer. I see the advantages of both and would appreciate opinions.

Wood I haven't tried a polymer handle but have broke plenty of fiberglass ones.

The wood that's used now a days sucks, buy a shovel head and handle and rivet them both to a pipe. You'll never have to worry about breaking your shovel.

I broke two wooden handles on a spade in the last 5 years or so, both times when I was using it to pry out a shrub or tree that still had some roots hanging on. After that I bought a Fiskars shovel from Ace with a welded steel handle. It's heavier than wood or fiberglass and it cost about $10 more, but it's a lot stronger. I used it to dig out some small pine trees and overgrown rose bushes this year and it held up to the abuse.

I had to buy a new chainsaw after the straight line winds leveled 4 of my trees on Friday. I bought a little Husqvarna. It works well. How about I hijack the thread the Tool started and change it into a chainsaw thread?

I used to have two chains, remove one, take it to Scheels, get it sharpened while I used the other. DUMB.

I was a tool for years not being able to sharpen my own. When a guy needs to cut wood he usually is not in the mood to run around getting things sharpened - it's usually under duress (straight line winds).

I'm near Ahab and have been cleaning up downed trees since Friday. Hand sharpened my saw three times over the weekend with a round file. Not hard to do, but time consuming. Did give me an opportunity to sit in front of the shop fan and sip a cool one while doing it. This tool looks to be a real time saver. On another note, talking with the neighbors there's a "titanium" chain available for Stihl saws now. They were tackling real big cottonwoods and said they cut through them like butter.

Around Bismarck, especially anywhere near the river, the cottonwoods often have sand in them. I think cured concrete would dull a chainsaw blade more slowly than a sand-laden cottonwood.
