Well the question was asked around a week ago when the river would break up in Bismarck... well today Superbowl Sunday is the answer. She is in full break up mode in town right now and places like double ditch are wide open bank to bank. With some quite impressive waves I might add! So hopefully the city will clear some ramps this week and it will be game on in town.

The question now is does anyone remember a breakup this early?

Seriously, all global warming talk aside. I can't remember a milder winter in my thirty-some years in ND, and my 70+ year old dad can't remember one either.

I read it was the 3rd latest Sak freeze over on record. No knowledge/comment on river ice-out date.

2012 was an early year. This one might be earlier or the weather pattern will change and it will be later. It's WAY too early to be calling for spring.

She's actually making a bit of ice this morning and jamming it up South of Expressway. This little cold snap is going to make it take a bit longer to get Bismarck cleared all the way out but not much.

I have no desire to be out in a boat freezing my ass off. If you still need a jacket, Id rather be tending my tipups with smelt....

Surprised nobody was on here whining that the pipes were too loud.

Well I did have one wake me up from a little miday nap the other day. At first I was irritated at whoever the punk was that had the truck with the big pipes and then it dawned on me that wasn't a truck it was a Harley. So I smilled and went back to sleep. The sweet sounds of spring of migrating geese, American Robins at sunrise and Harley Davidsons taking to the road.
