Wow! That's awesome, and sad at the same time.

Sad because I submitted my paperwork in Oct and was hoping I would get my suppressor in June so now it is making me thing it will be August or September.

I turned my paperwork in, in Sept and was hoping for May or June. Looks like mid to late summer now.

Not where I'd like to be
I got my second one (556 this time) in December. I took a good 10 months. The most annoying part was it was approved Nov 9, then it took them just over a month to get the approved paperwork back to Dakota Silencer. That's our government for you. Takes a month to stick something in an envelope and drop it in the mail.

I'm afraid you're going to be waiting a LOT longer than that. There was an enormous surge of applications mid summer of 2016 due to pending changes to Class III trusts. Most estimates are that if you submitted your application in or after June 2016, you'll be waiting 12-18 months.

Now, there was also a recent restructuring at the ATF so a separate department was created just for processing Class III applications. There aren't really many details about it yet.

I submitted the application for my suppressor in February. I don't expect to see it in 2017.

This is why we might be waiting 12-18 months to get our cans:

Silencer Shop Sends $2M+ Worth Of NFA Stamp Applications – In ONE Day

Posted July 13, 2016 in Daily News, NFA / Suppressors / Class III by Pete with 45 Comments
Yes, you read that right: More than $2,000,000 in NFA stamp applications in one submission. From Silencer Shop’s Facebook page:

So, we have made it through all the orders through the 11th and most of the 12th. Over 1200lbs of Form 4’s and trusts off to the ATF. Over 2 million dollars in tax stamps alone. This is the largest number of Form 4’s ever sent to the ATF in one day, ever!

In addition, sources have confirmed that Silencer Shop currently processes 49% of ALL Form 4 applications nationwide. That’s not just suppressors, but all Form 4 NFA transfers. Pretty staggering when you really think about it.

Other relevant stats:

Pictured is over 100 Boxes weighting about 12-14 lbs each, estimated at a total of 1200lbs.
This is twice the size of the largest number of form 4’s sent in one day in the history of the ATF for the entire country.
$2M+ is the largest amount of revenue that the ATF has received at one time (even though the money doesn’t go to them).
This is more form 4’s than the entire year for 1998 (as reported in the 2015 ATF report).
Now the big question is, where do we go from here?

If you have forms in the ATF system, do you expect to see approvals in less than 12 months? Are silencer sales going to plummet under the new regulations? With the return of Form 3’s to the ATF eFile system, will dealer to dealer transfer times be reduced? Will new applications get processed faster or slower than before 41F?

Only time will tell, but stay tuned. We hope to bring you additional post-41F news before the week is over.

For new submissions, Silencer Shop has been planning ahead. Last month, TFB brought you the exclusive last on their Secure Identification Documentation (SID) kiosk system.

SS41F

From the Silencer Shop blog:

July 13, 2016, is a date which will forever live in suppressor lore. On that Wednesday, the much-discussed ATF 41F rule goes into effect, kick-starting a new process for suppressor ownership approval. Because we’ve known this industry-wide change became a reality in early January, we at Silencer Shop embraced the challenge and viewed it as an opportunity to apply technology to the system in a manner that was unavailable before ATF 41F’s enactment.

And just because I like Innovative Arms, here’s a Silencer Shop review of their M&P 15-22 Integrally Suppressed rimfire carbine:

Thank you for the info, but man does that suck! Looks like I will probably have another yote season without my can. God I hope the hearing protection bill passes soon. That may be our best chance to get them sooner than later.

The last three I ordered were right at 10 months, they arrived at my door in January. I still have one in jail that was submitted on 7 July 2016(date check was cashed) according to the NFA tracker and Sniper's Hide I should get the call any day now.

are you saying it takes 10 months to order another suppressor even after your trust is set up and approved with your original suppressor purchase

That is correct but now you can't sidestep the fingerprints for everyone on your trust, still do a trust it's just a bigger pain in the ass now.

I formed my trust prior to the rule change. If I add another suppressor to the trust, would the members of the trust need them for the newly added suppressor?

These need to be as over the counter as aspirin the fact that all these bullshit taxes and hoops and waiting periods are in order for a suppressor is just nuts. Its another way to tax and fee people for no reason bills need to change this!

Yes, my trust is about 10 years old and all members of my trust can take any suppressor out at any time for the ones I have now, if you submit a form 4 now, all members on your trust have to have all of the bullshit pertaining to the new bill but they are good on all of the ones that you have a tax stamp on already if that makes sense?

Yes. Thanks. Looks like I'll wait to see what happens with the hearing protection act before I add another.

Lots of great information on silencers here! Just a reminder, the Varminter 3.0 comes apart to clean, which is nice! If you have any silencer related questions, just let me know. Brandon Maddox from Dakota Silencer

Here's a silencer related question for you brandon. If I promise to tell everyone how great your product is, will you give me a suppressor for free? Thanks
