School - as in high school sports. No way in non govt donations ---- How many colleges are having a hard time getting cash enough to pay for programs. Sports are part of the problem that employers cant get enough employees. Sports have been overdone. If you have a kid that is in sports - any real sports such as huntin fishin are a done deal as they cant get away from practice. Practice is over done.

I dont know the numbers but Id bet that sports make the schools more money than it costs them... Boys sports at least. I could be wrong.

Nope, sports are a money losing endeavor. UND Hockey and NDSU football are the only sports in the entire state that generate a profit and its not much, and they have to be selling out every home game. When it comes to high school sports I'm not entirely sure how much they cost the tax payers. The kids and the boosters do quite a bit of fundraising and pay for quite a bit of their own costs. It would be interesting to know the true cost to the taxpayers. And yes sports have become ridiculous!

They will continue to raise property taxes year after year because when given the opportunity to eliminate property taxes we told them we liked it dry. High time for another initiated measure

Yeah, I've seen several posts on social media from people claiming "The IRS is hiring! The government wants its IRS agents armed and its citizens disarmed. We’ll let everyone just marinate on that for a second.” Another post reads: “What would the founders have to say about 87,000 armed IRS agents?”

My question is, what would the Founding Fathers think of their fellow Americans who blatantly cheat on their financial responsibility to support the country? Estimates of tax cheats suggest they intentionally fail to pay an amount roughly equal to 3/4 of the annual deficit.

To be sure, we aren't talking about Suzie's lemonade stand here, we are talking about people who simply want others to pay their country's bill. Some may call them democrats for holding that philosophy, but in reality I am pretty sure it's rampant on both sides of the political aisle.

All I really know is that I pay my taxes every year, and it's aplenty. So I would like to see every single one of these tax cheats getting caught and lowering our deficit.

On this you are absolutely correct. Parents nowadays feel lots of pressure to give their kids every opportunity to be as successful as they can at their chosen sport. Here in Bismarck, Sanford Power is FILLED with kids outside of their normal season for their chosen sport. This keeps kids active (which ain't all bad), but it sure as hell throws a monkey wrench into their ability to hold a part-time job. And my kids are no exception to this new rule.

Since the IRS wasn't created until July 1, 1862 I don't think that there were any Founding Fathers around!

I wholeheartedly agree. I will be the first in line to complain about my taxes and I search high and low to make sure I'm not paying a cent more than required. But I pay what I owe and don't lie so they can hire a personal IRS agent for me and I don't have much to worry about. Cheating on taxes says more about the character of the individual than it does about the government. If I'm pulling my full weight while others are not, let em have it! From what I've seen, I'd imagine the farming community has the most to worry about.

57% of Americans surveyed say they pay too much in income taxes. Only 55% of Americans pay income tax. So 2% of our population is so stupid that they don't even know they don't pay income tax but think they pay too much. I'm more pissed that only half of our population pays taxes than anything.

As far as school sports, that's another conversation; but I'm wishing and hoping my kids want nothing to do with them! There is way too much to be doing from April to October that can teach them better lessons in hard work, patience, and working with others than sports ever will!

I can tell you I wouldn’t defend a tax cheat by any means but knowing what you know about politicians do you guys really believe if all the tax cheats were held accountable and payed all their back tax and fair share that said politicians would actually pay that against the deficit or simply spend the shit out of it and piss it away like they do with 99% of all the other money we give em

Shit no. That wasn't the discussion. You will never find me defending a politician. Well, maybe Rand Paul, he's about the only one who calls out the BS and seems to have any convictions. Pelosi, Biden, Trump, Sanders, McConnell, etc......all the same pile of VASTLY overspending garbage politicians. Every president since George Bush has done nothing more than use their political power to buy votes. And each party defends it by saying "but the other guy....." and votes down the line for their color's overspending bills. I have no problem taking out the red colored trash along with the blue colored trash. I am NOT a fan of Bill Clinton, but oddly enough, his second term is the last time this country operated in a fiscally responsible way (not in a deficit). Since him, we've had more years with a "conservative" president than not. And yet here we are. You can save your lecture on government waste for someone else. I know my hard-earned tax money is being wasted.

At least some of you guys are going to get your social security back. I'm getting shafted twice with my tax money going to art shows and some green haired kid's degree in toilet paper math and on top of that paying in for a social security check I'll never see.

It's only a tax cut for him and his friends in this state. We have a graduated rate from 1.1 to 2.9 I think. Proposed is a flat 1.5?

I only read it quickly, so maybe the devil is in the details. The way I understand it is that anyone making under $55k will pay no state income taxes and anyone over that will pay 1.5%, which is less than the current rates for someone over the $55k. How do you not qualify?

I'd gladly keep paying my income tax rate if we can eliminate property taxes. If they want to eliminate taxes they need to start there IMO.

If I had my preference, I'd rather pay property taxes that go to law enforcement, schools, roads, parks, etc; all of which may be reasons why I choose to live in a given area. State income taxes are what support the general fund and can be spent on social welfare programs and vote purchases that I may not chose to support and generally have little to do with where I prefer to live in ND.

Speaking of 55 my home taxes in two years (2019 & 2020) went up 55%. They say taxes didn't go up, but the value of my home did. They come out, looked at it and even though I did no home improvements they jacked up the value.

The problem with eliminating property taxes is that even more people will pay no taxes. Do you think income tax around Mott for example where you hand the guy $100 or $200 at the door to hunt pheasants gets reported. Eliminate property tax and you will somehow pay more because he will pay nothing. That's called a parsite.
