I was watching it with my family over Easter and a dude made a comment about is particular tiny house doesn't have the " privacy or the storage I need" and I thought to myself really? I'm not sure you understand the concept of a tiny house. I then thought about every outdoor enthusiasts like myself in ND. Boat, ATV, trailer to haul ATV many many guns, pickup to haul said boat, not any one of us in ND could do this.

Whoever said the single, young people hit it spot on as my single 23 year old sister in law thought this was a neat concept I'm sure she thinks Bernie is neat as well.......fkn kids

it's kind of crazy. across the highway from me west of Williston a developer built a dozen homes that 800-900 sq. feet. there is a reason there are two foundations that have never been capped for three years now.

I could easily live in one. As long as I had a nice big heated decked out Quonset next door.

Great topic! My wife watches. Pisses me off. I believe I've seen a couple with price tags close to 75k. That's titty sprinkling nutz! Idiots. I bet they tag it in the ass on resale in less than a year. That's if they can find a buyer for their custom designed box.

I would gladly live in one if it was parked on the ice and had a few holes cut in the floor

Traxion I was thinking the same thing about campers. Twice as big at half the weight and less money. I guess it's the 2016 version of he 1965 hippies.

Have you seen how shitty the average camper is built? Theres a reason they are half the weight and less money. Take a trip through the bakken and see what you have to do to one to make it even the slightest bit habitable in the winter. The average stick built tiny home is a million times better quality.

I think the tiny house idea is cool. IMO the average American is consumed by possessions. We simply work our asses off in alot of cases to keep up with the jones' and spend too much of our time to pay off the debt for things we want, not need. Another reason the rest of the world hates us, we are pretty much glutenous pigs

Could I live in a so called tiny house? probably not. Could I go back to living in a 800 square foot small house? Hell yes! And I plan to go back to that since I've realized that the 3,000 sq foot home we built because we thought we needed more room, we really dont.
And then I can go back to spending a hell of alot more time on stuff I want to do rather than working for, on, or around the big home that seems to be the norm now days. Having ZERO mortgage frees up alot of time and money.

Also keep in mind that alot of these tiny home people are living in areas where they aren't cooped up inside 9 months out of the year due to the damn weather. Hell in the summer, I bet my family is inside less than an hour a day that we aren't sleeping. But I'm still paying for those 3,000 square feet.

I look back to 50-60-70 years ago when people raised families of 6 in houses less than 1000 sq feet. That was the norm, and they did just fine.

haha.. "kids" what are you? like 30?

Its a good thing that young people think that tiny houses are a neat idea. At least they aren't thinking that a big house and a ton of debt are the only ways to go.

I currently live in a 1500 sq ft home and it's plenty big for us. When my wife and I become "Empty Nesters", I'm fairly certain we will be down sizing our living space as we won't need as much anymore and it will be in a much warmer climate. That being said, my garage space needs will quintuple, so I guess that will balance things out a bit. LOL!! A 30 ft fiberglass boat with trips on the back takes up a lot of space. (Grin)

I've noticed a lot of the people on this show are hippies. I could live in a tiny house if I was by myself, and had a garage. No way I would do it with wife and kids.

our house is about 700 square feet..dont have kids, don't plan on it. we bought the house I was renting about three years ago, itll be paid for next year. I like what fnzfwl says. I think of a huge mortgage as signing a contract as a indentured servent. someday when land prices get back to reasonable we will buy some and build a 900 sq ft house. I'm glad to not have to give a bank 1200$ a month for 30 years and pay 2000$ year on taxes.

it seems to me that smoking pot would be a critical tool in your tiny house habitation toolbox

heavy drinking would not - it would lead to rage/anger for most - and if you break just one or two things half your house is trashed

mrs johnr takes up very little room, unlike me....haha
I enjoy having room for nice things, I work to enjoy life, and think that life is slightly more enjoyable with a few possessions.

Why would you want to live in a tiny little box house if you could afford to live in something more comfortable?
Its like getting on an airplane, no one chooses to sit in the crowded little seat with a fat fella on either side, could you do it, sure and have, would you choose to do it if you could sit in first class instead?

The green thing is much ado about nothing.

No way I could live in something that small if a smelly hippie lived there too.

i concur, except I don't care what the rest of the world thinks of us. Have you noticed that most of the rest of the world is way more screwed up than America?

Right now Im arguing with the wife about moving. I think our house is plenty big, she doesn't. Realized also that even when Hillary is elected and bans a lot of my favorite guns, I still won't need enough guns to arm a small country. Sold off a bunch of my collection and ammo, now just down to a few useful guns and bought a bow.

You can't take it with you...

Yeah 50-60-70 years ago folks did fine. They also lived shorter lives, made less income and many just did without. Too each their own, live within your means. I enjoy having room for guests and entertaining and not feeling cramped all the time. We don't need a mansion but lived in a FEMA type trailer long enough to know that 900 to 1200 sq ft will not work for us.

I think they call that being materialistic. :;:thumbsup

Would you work 40 plus hours a week to live in a big house when you could work 20 to live in one half the size and go fishing with your kids the extra 20 hours a week you have? or would you work the extra 20 just so your boat could have more sparkles?
