Reading KDM's thread on distributing unused items made me wonder.... What does one do with old shoulder mounts that are still in good shape but unwanted? Can a person legally sell them?

I have never put a pheasant in a mount, however plan to at some point. I will likely never mount another fish or deer, the few I have are enough.

Iffn I was to slay the biggest sob ever in the history of ever I would maybe mount another.

with the passage of time, the trophy is less than the memory... not that these have some outdoor life worthy story. Doubt my kids want them, or if I ever have grandkids, etc. Sort of like the urn of great great great grandma.... who gets that hot potato?

But in seriousness, staring down the barrel of divorce and evaluating what to put in my bandana on a stick has me thinking of these things.

I had a buddy sell some fish mounts, not sure if selling aminals would be any less legal. Apparently people or decorators will buy these for cabins, bars or other businesses.

Mounts that aren't wanted might be usable for a high school science/biology class or a college or university biology/zoology department. They use them for classes and displays. You might even donate to a kids type deal for a touchy thing. Let the kids feel a deer, duck, pheasant, furs, etc. I know the zoo's have had such kid things. Just a thought.

There are those who will pay top dollar so they can spin a yarn for their friends about the weather they endured. the miles they walked, the bears, the frostbite etc.

Why not ? How do they know what state they are from or if they were even wild. Could be your pet for all they know. No ones business but yours.

I saw a head mount being wrapped for shipment at the UPS store several years back. It was sold on Ebay.

Yup they are for sale all over E-bay. They are worth money, not sure why anyone would give them away?

Gotta be a local bar that has some space where a deer mount would look neat-o. Especially with a trucker cap and aviator glasses on it.

Ebay for sure...some rich east or west coast moron would pay good money for mounts. I almost sold my elk mount for $6k a long time ago. We were in need of some quick cash. Glad my wife and father-in-law talked me out of it...

see if you can house them somewhere for a while

after the dust clears you might really regret dumping them

I ditched wife number one after 10 years of marriage, wasn't bad after everything was hammered out.
Sometimes its for the best, sorry to hear of your situation.

Storage sheds in town are available for pretty cheap if needed too.

I have some deer skulls that were laying around the farm for as long as I can remember. I finally picked them up one day, brought them home, and scattered them around the rocks in front of the house. None of the older family members can remember who shot which ones. Every once and a while when I see an add that someone is buying old antlers, I think about selling them.

WW,
Bad deal, hope it works out for the best for you.
Was down this trail myself many many years ago. At the time I thought it was the worst thing that could happen. Few years later, I met a wonderful lady and got married again after I told her right from the get-go i wasn't getting married again. Didn't know married life could be so wonderful, just have to find the right one.
Good luck!
