Anyone remember this title from the Outdoor Life magazines? I used to love reading the fishing and hunting mini stories. Perhaps this thread could be used for something like that. I will start.

10/21/2018 - I was pitching a 1/4 ounce jig for walleyes on the river and had about 10 feet of line out when I felt a thump. I set the hook and in the clear water I saw a large fish roll and I believed it to be a large pike. I was fishing by myself. The fish made several runs and the boat was now in the main current so that worked against me. It took a few minutes before I was able to lift the fish to the surface where I got a good look at the big pike. The jig was nicely hooked in the lip so I wasn't worried about getting bit off. I played her out and hand landed her being careful to not let my fingers get into the gill rakers. I lifted her in the boat, put her on the scale where she hit 20.4lbs and then took a selfie before letting her go.

Didn't the "This happened to Me" series usually involve danger, gore, hypothermia, drowning, being attacked by angry beavers, etc.?

Fighting a pike of that stature can result in all of those things guy.

They did indeed, but our guidelines don't have to be that strict here. I could have lost a finger or fell out of the boat hand landing him if that helps. What has happened to you lately?

I was at no time, in any danger, but I about had a heart attack twice last night, when a beaver slapped it's tail right behind me in the dark. Twice. Both times just a few feet upstream from me. Dirty buggers.

Count your lucky stars JayKay. Many a good fisherman has met his demise at the hands of an angry beaver.

Couple weeks ago I was hunting with a friend trying to fill my ND elk tag. While waiting in the parking lot for the sun to come up mother nature started to call. Couple cups of coffee and a big dip of Copenhagen really got the process going that particular morning. So I hop out of the pickup to go sit behind a dirt mound in the parking lot. I was just finishing up when I felt an extremely sharp pain in my lower back. I instantly thought to myself that I had stepped in an ant hill. I take a look to my right and notice there is a small round hole in the side of the dirt mound and that angry little hornets are pouring out of it. I jump up trying to make a break for it with pants still around my ankles. I start to scream in terror believing I will trip and fall at any second and get overcame by the swarm of stingers. My buddy yells "What the hell are you doing!!!" I reply with a shrill of "BEES BEES!!" I will consider myself lucky because I was only stung one more time on my thigh. Both bites hurt pretty good until I got home 2 days later.

How did you manage to take that selfie?

pretty much all cell phones have a timer. I us mine all the time to take fish pics when fishing by myself. I prop the phone up on my dash and set the timer. easy.

B236B60D-57C3-46B6-8089-D8A202F9761C.jpgWent hunting his weekend way west of DL. Put in close to 800 miles. Came home Sunday evening. This morning went to work and heard a weird noise when I pulled into the parking lot. Looked around and didn’t see anything that I may have run over. Checked my truck and found this neat souvenir. No idea how long it was stuck under my wheel well. I just know I’m damn lucky it didn’t rip off the brake line it was attached to!
