Nice Mount!! The one and only swan I've shot had a neck band and a leg band as well. $750 isn't redonkulous, where did you have your work done if I may ask?

For waterfowl i would go through birdman taxidermy. Hes in CO but does topshelf mounts at a price that wont put you into bankruptcy. Like was said taxidermist HATE swans due to all the fat that has to be peeled off. http://www.birdmanstudios.com

Yeah at this point it pretty much has to be collared to get me to shoot since the act of just taking a swan is no longer what it was when it was something new. I would take a banded one but they tend to be a bitch to spot unless they are feet down. Unfortunately they have not collard swans in the last several years so there are not all that many left and i only saw one last year and none the year before. I had a streak going where i got three collars in five years and got close on a half doz others. Hell on one day back on the early 2000's there were five different collard birds on rice lake south of wing at one time. Still put out the swan spread a fair bit because its fun the watch a half doz 747's come bailing in!
